John "The Rock" Cena

I know that there is already a thread up about how Cena's booking with Eric is like SCSA/Vince, but that's booking and storyline; a Creative WWE deal. What I'm talking aobut is how Cena moves and wrestles in the ring. Is it just me or does he move like the Rock? Examples: he waits in the corner bending over to do the FU the way The Rock would wait for the Rock Bottom. Sometimes when Cena gets fired up he kinda throws his hand in the air like The Rock. The spinebuster to "can't see me" to the ropes to the Five Knuckle Shuffle is akin to the spinebuster to the taunting thing to the ropes to the People's Elbow. Cena kinda winds back to do a series of punches kinda like how Rocky did except without the spit-in-the-hand-for-the-big-slap thing. I dunno, am I crazy? Either way I still like Cena and Rocky both and I'm not saying that Cena sucks for copying the Rock or anything like that. All I'm saying is that he reminds me so much of Rocky. I'm just wondering if it's all in my head or if anyone else has noticed this before.

Yea I think he has taken some of the Rock's stuff and put his own spin on it but there are definitely similarities there. It also could be that they both were face characters and they both do things to just play up the crowd too. But he does seem to do some similar stuff as to what the Rock did, probably on purpose.

I don't think that's because they are both faces. I think that just maybe Cena either does it without thinking about it or the Johnsons got arround....

Yup, I've noticed that too...although Cena is being booked like SCSA, his in-ring wrestling style is like that of Rocky's...its kinda obvious, like how the five-knuckle shuffle is the like the People's Elbow, and like how he waits for the FU, like Rocky doin the Rock Bottom...i think he's not copyin the Rock, but is influenced by Rocky's style...probably from watchin Rocky every week when Cena was The Prototype...

naw man, you're not crazy. I see a lot of the Rock's characteristics in Cena, especially when he does those consecutive punches and plays up to the crowd. I can't blame him I guess, since the things the Rock did were successfuly and he tried to do similar things for his success too.

Cena takes off what the Rock has done, but what the Rock did was orginal stuff. Cena needs to be orginal, or else he will be compared to the previous ones. Cena needs to develop his character on his own.

I've thought that, also. Cena lacks the polish that the Rock had in the ring, but his signature moves (and the timing of them especially) mimick those of the Rock.

5 Knuckle Shuffle = People's Elbow
Flashback = Spinebuster
F-U = Rock Bottom

You can't blame Cena for this: there's nothing wrong with emulating one of the very best of all time in the ring.

Really now? Have you ever seen Hogan wrestle when he was younger? He could do a lot of stuff in the ring. What about Hogan's big boot-Rockbottom? The leg drop-people's elbo? The people's Eyebrow-Hogans hand to ear? The Rocks Bring it hand gesture-Hogans YOU! finger point?
