Lord Alfred Hayes passes away

As reported by Dave Meltzer on wrestlingobserver.com

"Lord Al Hayes, an in-ring star in the 60s and 70s who was best known for his role as a television announcer for WWE in the 80s, passed away this morning. He was 77.

Hayes had been in poor health for some time, slowed by ring injuries and eventually, contracting gangrene which caused amputation of part of his leg.

He suffered a fall a few days ago in the Dallas area nursing home he was living in, which led to a series of strokes, which are believed to be the cause of death."

Personally I wasn't a big fan of his work but I'm sorry to hear of his passing and the ill health he had suffered for quite some time. Quite probable those that didn't see WWE in the 80's wouldn't know the chap.

I liked him especially when he introduced the bulldog at the royal albert hall in 92.

I was wondering what happened to him and obviously now i know.

This is a shame.

His work on the Bobby Heenan show was hilarious, and he wasn't a bad announcer either. I can't remeber did he make the call on the Bret/Bulldog match at Wembley?

Get yourself an old wrestling tape. Watch Flair in his prime, Terry Funk, The Road Warriors, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Barry Windham, The Andersons, Pat Patterson, The Briscoes, and I dare you,... I dare you to try to tell me that WWE is even a remotely good product. Wrestling happened before 1998 and just because you didn't see it does not mean it did not exist. Broaden your horizons people!!!

He was an interesting character. I have him on Smackem Whackem in segments with The Bushwackers. Funny stuff.

Sad news.

He was backstage doing interviews I think. Summerslam 92 was called by Vince and Heenan.

Lord Alfred was awsome calling the Ultimate Warrior/Bobby Heenan weasel suit match.

The only reason I liked him when I was younger was because he was British. I couldn't stand his voice... it really stuck out compared to Meane Gene, Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heanan.

Anyway it's always sad to hear of a former wrestling personality passing away who I watched while growing up. Rest In Peace Lord Alfred....

Edge will rise again...
