D's Top 5 for the Week of 7/11

Raw

1. Matt Hardy: Seriously, who else could it be? After being the center of the biggest story on the Internet (wrestling-wise, of course), Matt made his triumphant return to Raw this week. This should lead to one of the most highly-anticipated matches in recent memory. I, for one, can't wait to see what happens next

2. John Cena: The WWE Champion has certainly drawn the ire of GM Eric Bischoff. Bisch announced that Cena will defend his title against Chris Jericho at Summerslam. This is ironic, seeing as how Cena made his PPV debut against Chris Jericho, winning in what was, at the time, a monumentous upset. Cena capped off his night by giving the GM an FU, an act that he will certainly have to pay for.

3. Shawn Michaels: HBK wasn't in action this week, but the wrestling world was buzzing after his out-of-nowhere superkick to Hulk Hogan's jaw one week prior. He had not one, not two, but THREE interviewers begging for the chance to have him on their segment. In the end, Rowdy Roddy Piper surprised everyone by bringing HBK onto the Piper's Pit set. HBK gave little indication as to his motives behind the superkick, and he flattened another legend in the pricess, hitting Sweet Chin Music on the Rowdy one

4. Chris Masters: The Masterpiece won yet again, this time against his toughest competition to date, the Japanese Buzzsaw Tajiri. Despite the size differential, Tajiri's quickness and veteran savvy were almost too much for the rookie. But in the end, Masters locked in the seemingly unbreakable Materlock, and emerged victorious. Who will be the first to break the Masterlock?

5. Chris Jericho: Jericho was named #1 contender for John Cena's WWE Championship. Jericho's been champ before, and he surely has what it takes to get it done again. Unfortunately for Y2J, he was neither in action this week, nor was he able to get a Highlight Reel segment on the show. Plus, he was subjected to some shoot-type insults from relative new-comer Carlito Caribbean Cool. Were it not for his #1 contender status, and his witty retorts back to the Cool One, the man formerly known as Lionheart probably would not have cracked the Top 5

Rising star: Shelton Benjamin. After being placed in last week's "Falling Fast" slot, this incredible athlete shot up the standings thanks to his stellar match with IC Champ Carlito. Shelton won via count-out meaning that he did not win the Intercontinental Championship from Carlito. We seem to be headed for a rematch at Summerslam. This match could steal the show

Falling fast: The Big Show. Q: How do you lose a 7-foot tall, 450-pound man?

A: Just ask WWE's writers.

Those of us who are still holding out hope for Big Show's career couldnt have been pleased with not seeing this behemoth on Raw this week. Will he appear next week? Will it matter?

Smackdown!

1. Eddie Guerrero: Eddie recieved a ton of face time this week, andhe made it all count. He once again toyed with Rey Mysterio, and continued to do so despite the pleas of his family. Then, he quickly disposed of Hardcore Holly in a one-on-one match. He was announced to face Rey Mysterio at the Great American Bash, with the stipulation that if Rey is victorious, he will keep his secret to himself. If not, he will tell the whole world. Let's hope the secret isnt the obvious choice.

2. Batista: The World Heavyweight champion was succesful in a singles match against U.S. Champion Orlando Jordan, despite the presence of JBL at ringside. Post-match, however, JBL got the best of the Animal, laying him out to end the broadcast

3. MNM: This trio had two matches announced for the GAB. Firstly, Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury will defend their tag team titles against Heidenreich and his new friend, Animal of the Road Warriors. Considering Animal's age, and his inexperience taggin with Heidenreich, the champs should be the big favorites heading into that match. Secondly, the oh-so-sexy Melina confronted Torrie Wilson, and challenged her to a bra-and-panties match at the bash. Horny men everywhere are in for a treat with this match

4. The Mexicools: These WWE new-comers made quite an impact this week, emerging victorious in a 6-man tag match versus Funaki, Scotty 2 Hotty, and Cruiserweight champion Paul London. Further, Juentud Guerrera seemingly injured London in the process. WWE will update us next week on the champion's condition. Still, the Mexicools are proving to be a force to be reckoned with

5. The Undertaker: Slow day for the Dead Man this week. With Muhammad Hassan not in the building this week due to his controversial actions last week, the Undertaker was forced to take out his frustrations on Hassan's attorney. The Dead Man came to the ring, choke-slammed the lawyer and left. Quick and silent, but effective, was Undertaker's presence this week.

Rising star: Christian. The leader fo the peeps was finally victorious this week. With his charisma and growing cult following, WWE wouldbe wise to let him win a few more in the near future

Falling fast: Booker T. Back-to-back losses for the Houston native, first to Chris Benoit, then to a struggling Christian. July hasnt been good for the Bookerman. Let's see if he can turn things around

Nope and nope, Big Show is lost to me

Seriously, good stuff with this post D, will now wait intently for next week's installment.

I wish my sex life was like ECW, first you get a One Night Stand followed by 2 months of nostalgic orgasms and then 6 months of constant sucking.

People are reading and like to hear what you think...

I pretty much can't argue with you on anything this week but maybe the Masters thing..I don't think it was a good performance from Masters..Not his fault of course. I mentioned this in my RAW Thoughts, but Tajiri is basically a jobber now..If Masters was fighting a guy that gets on RAW TV almost every week then fine, but it was a jobber and Tajiri dominated most of the offense..

I think Masters needed to be booked for a squash win in that one...I don't wanto to turn the guy into Goldberg but against weak competition I see no problem with the easy win there..

AHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! I almost fell off my chair reading that!!!!
I love how its been like almost 9 months since this whole Christian thing started and you guys cling his every little action as if hes a step away from the world title. I'm pretty sure he goes in the falling fast category with Booker. He was at least upper mid card/ sometimes main event on RAW, now he is relegated to another fued with Booker on the bottom 3rd or 4th of the show. Even better when Lesnar gets back Christian will get destroyed on a regular basis more than likely. YES! let him win a few more that will really shoot his career to new heights!!! Pathetic.

By the way, Masters has no place on the list. Unless you want to point out the amazing suckiness of his outings against Val Venis, Stevie Richards, and now Tajiri. They guy is learning how sell against guys he has no business selling against. Thats more the bookers fault I guess. The way Masters has looked since his debut I think I could take him.

Get yourself an old wrestling tape. Watch Flair in his prime, Terry Funk, The Road Warriors, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Barry Windham, The Andersons, Pat Patterson, The Briscoes, and I dare you,... I dare you to try to tell me that WWE is even a remotely good product. Wrestling happened before 1998 and just because you didn't see it does not mean it did not exist. Broaden your horizons people!!!

even i'll admit i was kinda reaching with Christian...

But Smackdown really hasnt done a great job of making anyone look good.

But I like Christian, and he won a match, so there you go

By the way, i'm in the "Christian is not main-event caliber" camp with you

Mister D. Great Weekly wrapup once again. As much as I love Christian, I gotta agree with Steveo. His move to Smackdown has been filled with the same mediocricy that surrounded him on Raw.

I would also put the Mexicools number 2 on the SD list. They rule the school. I am offically a Pychosis mark.

P.S> My spacebar on my PC is jakked as my daughter dropped the keyboard onthe floor. Excuse the sloppy post.

oh, another reason why I put Christian on it...

There were only 4 matches on SD. The victors on Smackdown: Eddie, Mexicools, Batista, Christian. The first three all made my top 5, and for the rising category, I really couldnt think of anybody else who was portrayed in a positive light on SD last week. Rey has been made to look like a bitch, same with Orlando Jordan, Muhammad Hassan didnt even appear in front of the live crowd, etc.
