This belt has been a joke in recent years, but ever since Randy Orton's title reign, I've felt that some respect and prestige has been brought back to it. The last few champions have been able to wrestle good matches on a weekly basis for once. It beats the hell out of Christian's last title reign. I actually feel like not just anybody will get the belt.

I remember what you're talking about. I think they had the European Title around, and then with the invasion came the U.S. Title for a while and the three mid-card titles changed hands on a weekly basis with people like Val Venis holding them.
Getting rid of the Euro Title and only having one mid-card title on each show was a good move, and then they gave the I.C. Belt to Randy and then Shelton who could put on good matches like you said. Carlito will do well with the title also with all his potential he's shown.
I'm worried about the U.S. Title though...OJ almost never defends it and when he does it's against some idiot who shouldn't have a title feud going on.
They should not have a U.S. title, the cruiserwweight should be SD's secondary belt, putting some light on the non existent cruiserweight division. The IC belt used to only be a hair under the world, a grooming belt for a potential new world champ. Now it seems like, "some ppl cheer this guy, give him the IC belt. "

Until 18 months ago, I would have agreed with you Lynch.
Before Orton's reign, the title switched hands seemingly every month, so there were no real "reigns". I think Orton and Benjamin's title reigns have changed that perception, at least a little bit.
Orton was a guy who was very entertaining, and they wanted to groom for a top spot. He may have flopped once he got to that spot, but I thought his IC title reign was great.
Then with Benjamin, it's obvious that he's a guy that WWE really likes and wants to see get over. They gave him the belt and let him hold it for a long time to see what he could do. Was it successful? Eh, maybe not. But WWE was using it as a stepping stone, which is what the IC title used to be

Agreed. Carlito is another guy who could get to the top at some point. Is it a little early for him? maybe. But at least WWE is trying to make new stars with the IC belt. They need to do the same thing with the U.S. Title, and I agree the Cruiser title should be given more air time, but the heavyweights on SD! should have something to fight for other than a World Title, it gives them something to do, and it gives the guy who holds the title something to brag about. They've just done a horrible job with OJ's reign.
