RAW thoughts for June 20, 2005

I thought RAW wasn't very good this week. Here's my Pro/Con list

Pro:
-Cena's promo was solid. He's better on the mic in a live environment than he is taped.

-They played Matt Hardy's music.

-Victoria jacked up Christy.

-Carlito was the latest draft pick and he wins IC Title in his first match.

Cons:
-Matt Hardy didn't actually show up.

-Wedding angle was terrible.

-Christy and Kermit's acting.

-Viscera.

-No Chris Masters.

-Hassan being squashed by Cena.

-Diva Search and Hell in a Cell recap.

I don't know, maybe it's me but it feels like WWE is doing a lot of "hot shot" booking right now. They're going for the initial big reaction for the draft, yet they have no long term direction. The Cena-Christian-Y2J match was thrown together instead of building Cena-Christian for a month, leading to a possible SummerSlam match, while also building Y2J's heel turn (they could've gotten a huge reaction if the writers continued to build on his 'I have other interests besides wrestling' storyline), which could've led to Cena-Y2J at Survivor Series or an earlier PPV like Taboo Tuesday.

Now we'll likely get Cena-Triple H, even though Triple H is the last guy who deserves a title shot since he's lost 3 times to Batista (assuming Batista wins Sunday) and Triple H will then beat Cena to become 11-time champ and Cena will be in big trouble on RAW after that.

Carlito moving to RAW is cool, but I liked him on Smackdown and he was a reason to watch the show. Now there's one less reason to watch SD! WWE is for whatever reason burying SD! once again, and I don't understand why. Maybe things will change by the end of the draft, but right now SD! is in bad shape.

I'm just happy that Triple H-Batista will be done after Sunday. Both guys need fresh opponents. I still think one of them will be on SD!, with my money being on Batista.

im really starting to think this whole matt hardy thing is a set up and he may make an appearance at vengeance. edge and matt were lik ebest friends so of course they could be like hey lets play a joke on people on ur website. even if people didnt know about it they could just be like oh matt was out because of kane and he is back to take lita back.... what do you think?

all i saw was shelton vs. carlito, the wedding segment, and cena vs. hassan.

i thought shelton vs. carlito was a really good match. both of them are very solid and they each have a ton of potential.

wedding thing. dont get me started. disgusting. i used to think the writers were just complete idiots and not figure out that the fans want to see hardy and dont give a crap about kane. but after tonight i realize that theyre not that stupid after all, theyre just dicks. the whole thing with the theme music was just really really terrible booking. its like, "lets tease the fans by giving them what we all know they really want, but then bring their hopes crashing back down and make them settle for kane.

MY ADVICE TO WWE WRITERS: cut the crap, you over-paid soap opera drop-out pieces of trash. if you want to push kane, thats great, nobody has a problem with that. put his mask back on and get him in a feud with a really good heel. keep him away from edge and lita because that angle will NEVER go over. NEVER. i guarantee that.

WWE writers should have 2 goals in mind when preparing their material. one: making money, and two: pleasing the fans. the best way to do both of those right now is to bring back Hardy. everyone can see that. so do it.

if the whole situation is real after all (which im assuming it is) and edge and hardy refuse to work together for personal reasons, then theyre both in the wrong buisness. why? because if they were truly passionate about their careers, being on the road 363 days a year performing for thousands of people every other day, then they should be able to put their personal drama aside and do whatever they can to please their FANS, who they would be absolutely NOTHING without.

some people say this buisness is about making money. others (like me) say its about putting on a good show for the fans. either way, the best way to do both of those things right now would be to bring Hardy in. if they can't make that happen, then i think the writers along with edge and hardy should sit down and get their damned priorities figure out before they go any further with their careers.

and thats my 2 cents. maybe it was more like 3. im just disgusted with the whole situation right now. that is, of course, assuming the whole thing is real. if its a work, then nevermind everything i just said, bravo, proceed, carry on. looking forward to seeing matt.

oh yeah, and cena vs. hassan sucked balls. there needed to be more heat and less pumping of the damn reeboks. in my opinion it was just too short and cena went over way too fast. it made hassan look like complete crap.

it's still real to me, dammit!

You're right about the strange booking of late, but I think it has more to do with them trying to get a big buyrate out of Vengeance than poor writing, well in some instances anyway. The other crap is inexcusable.

Pros:

-Carlito being the draft pick and then winning the IC belt. I have no problem with Shelton, actually I love the guy, but this was a good move. Shelton had the title since October and Carlito needs it more right now than him. Carlito has shown a lot of potential on SD! but hasn't gotten the proper push for it. Maybe Shelton can now go to SD! and develop his character so that this time next year he'll be ready to come back to the big leagues and tear shit up.

-Triple/Angle vs. HBK/Dave. I liked what the writers did here for two reasons. 1. They didn't give away too much Batista-Angle action, because I think that could be a big match for WWE down the road. 2. Triple H won the match with a clean pin over Dave. To me, this should mean that Dave retains, which for now, I'll admit is the right move.

Cons:

-The Wedding was awful. Not only was the Matt Hardy thing done poorly, but isn't Kane supposed to beat up Edge so that Edge can win at the PPV? Now, Edge is still going to win and Kane is going to look not only dumb, but weak as well. I hate Lita, everything about her pisses me off. Now, why was the Hardy thing done poorly? it was the way the segment ended. The crowd was completly dead after there was no Matt and then they tried to make a big deal that Kane tombstoned a priest...who cares?

-Viscera and Lillian. Not only is this whole thing gross (you're right Jackie), but why is Vis putting up squash wins? He sucks and we all know it, and there is no way he will ever get over enough to make us forget that fact.

-Diva bullshit. They are all going to be useless and we already have enough hot chicks in WWE. If they want another hot chick on RAW they could easily take Torrie or Joy from SD! and be done with it. But no, we have to watch this shit.

-Hassan getting killed by Cena. I'm not saying Hassan should have won the title, and I'm not even saying that Hassan shouldn't have gotten pinned by Cena. I mean, after all Cena has to look strong some how with his belt being looked at as the inferior title right now. But they way the match was booked was really bad. Hassan has been built up for months and generates more heat than almost anyone, and he gets pinned clean in less than five minutes? I don't even know how he can recover from a loss like that. Now, he's all out of excuses. It has come to the point where Hassan should just be sent to SD! and re-built into a main player for a year and then come back to RAW because this loss was unreal.

Poor show overall, but I'm looking forward to Vengeance regardless.

They may be friends and all. plus the fact that I have had the opinion that it was a work the whole time but the way that Edge and Lita make out is either legitmate lust or decent acting. And last time I checked Lita couldnt act to save her freaking life.


I must say, I had tingles when Hardys music came on. I was watching it with my wife and she says "Will Matt Hardy come out?" I said there is no freaking way. They will do the predictable finish with Kane. Then his music comes on and I almost shit. But I literally realized what was happening after a couple seconds when he didnt pop out.


There are good teases and bad teases. Unless Matt Hardy shows up at Vengenance this could wind up being one of the worst storyline ideas in the history of the WWE.

If its a shoot, then they are really doing Matt Hardy an extreme misjustice. Its its a work, they should keep on keeping on. Great job. I have my doubts though.


I still havent watched all of Raw yet, but here are my thoughts.....




Pros:

Cena on Raw.. I just seems so right. I like it so much better. He needs to be given better storylines to work with and should have just gotten taken out by Christian prematch (so Christian can keep up the "forgotten man" gimmick)

Lack of overHHHexposure. I love HHH but I dont need him dominating my TV for 2 hours.

CCC defeating Shelton. I thought this was cool. Shelton needs a new gimimick.. He has all the tools to be one of the best ever, but nobody seems to notice.

The WWE has managed to get over Big Vis. Wow !!!


Cons:

Hassan losing to Cena like that. When someone tells me what that accomplishes then I may change my mind........nah, that was really stupid.


The Christy angle. My wife asked me if I was embarrased to be a wrestling fan when she was being interviewed. The answer...........Yes.


The Wedding angle !!!! Already explained.

Carlito to Raw - I love this guy, I'm just glad he's gonna be on the show I watch every week

I've gotta disagree with JV and say I thought the wedding angle was really well done. Edge and Lita looked like real sleazeballs, and I thought Snitsky's bit was hysterical. The Matt Hardy tease made me jump out of my seat, but then after like 10 seconds i was like...nope...it's just gonna be a tease. and i was proven right. Plus, I thought it was cool when Kane poked his head out from under the ring haha

Cons: Shelton Benjamin's IC title reign ending. I'm a big Shelton fan, and I wanted to see him hold onto the title longer

I missed a good portion of the rest of the show...but I liked what I saw this week

I missed the Carlito thing but am very excited he's on RAW now.

I think it was a joke the way they killed Hassan's undefeated streak.

Batista and Cena both need to work on their punches, and fast.

I think Christian is going to pin Jericho Sunday and then get drafted to Smackdown. Its the only way I can see them moving the title back there in a way that makes sense. I just hope they're not gonna turn Christian face, I saw a few signs of that last night. He's much better as a heel.

I actually got a laugh out of Edge's "Sorry, I just couldn't resist" line regarding Hardy's entrance music. My son and I were both popping when the music came on, I do hope Hardy comes back. This whole Edge and Lita thing aside, I always liked the guy's V1 gimmick. I think he had me at "Matt strongly dislikes mustard".

The wedding itself was really stupid. Why does the WWE think people want to see this?

Christy Hemme gets uglier by the week. Someone needs to teach her how to apply makeup properly, she wears it like a 14 year old mallgirl. In another "the WWE still doesn't get it" move, I think she's going to beat Victoria at the PPV.

I had forgotten how much fun it was to watch Angle in the ring and watching him do his suckup routine with the boss. The guy is just outstanding in every area. HBK/Angle 2 should be memorable.

Lillian is mega-hot.

Auctually it doesnt really make sense. You`d lose the Christian/Cena fued they`ve obviously been building for nearly 2 months (not that WWE havn`t f`ed up like that before). Also with CCC moving to Raw the most logical step is to move the newly Heel Y2J over to Smackdown where he can face the mainly face roster for the next 5 months, and obviously Smackdown does auctually need the Highlight Reel as it has lost the Cabana.
