Shelton Benjiman

This past Wednesday, Shelton Benjamin's current Intercontinental Title Reign entered it's 211th day, officially passing Randy Orton's 210 days moving him to #14 on the all-time list. By Monday he will move into 12th passing a pair of 216 day reigns by Tito Santana and the Ultimate Warrior respectively.

Why is it we heard so damn much about the length of Orton's reign, but absolutely nothing for Shelton.

Well, Shelton, here's to you for surpassing the length of the most overrated IC Title reign in company history.

He is about 2 weeks away from beating Tito Santana and making his way into the top 10 longest IC Championship reigns of all time!

Top 10 IC Title Reigns (By Length)

1) Honky Tonk Man (06/02/87-08/29/88) 454 Days
2) Pedro Morales (11/21/81-01/22/83) 424 Days
3) Randy Savage (02/08/86-03/29/87) 414 Days
4) Don Muraco (01/22/83-2/11/84) 385 Days
5) Greg Valentine (09/24/84-07/07/85) 286 Days
6) Curt Hennig (11/19/90-08/26/91) 280 Days
7) Rocky Maivia (12/08/97-08/30/98) 265 Days
8) Pat Patterson (09/01/79-04/21/80) 233 Days (Approx. as title created, not actually won).
9) Ken Patera (04/21/80-12/08/80) 231 Days
10) Tito Santana (02/11/84-09/24/84) 226 Days

Personally I hope they leave shelton right were he is on the card. It`s good to have solid mid-carders and the experience he is quietly building now plus the few awesome PPV spots/matches he`s pulling out make him an ideal slow burner. Let`s not get carried away and throw him up the card yet, no-one wants to see another Randy Orton career fall apart scene.

my sentiments exactly. I think Benjamin has a long career ahead of him, and I think they need to give him more time to get comfortable on the mic and playing a character before pushing him any further

Orton was miles ahead of him character-wise when they pushed him, and it still wasnt enough. I dont think Shelton is ready yet.

If wrestling was like the NFL and there were companies lining up to draft superstars..who would you pick: Shelton or Orton?

I would pick Shelton Benjamin..I think this guy has the most potential out of anyone on the roster right now. The most up-side, if you will.

I think Orton's reign got so much attention because he was seen by some as the next big thing wheras Benjamin is a solid midcarder but not ready yet to main event. I would also pick Benjamin over Orton in a draft, altough I would pick Orton evetually.

between those two, definitely shelton... orton is awesome on the mic but ive really never been extremely impressed with his wrestling. shelton is way more athletic, and he can pass as both a powerhouse and a high-flyer. i agree that he has a ton of potential and can be a huge superstar, he just needs to get more comfortable, get more charisma and better mic skills. and thats exactly what i was saying about batista last year, and look at that dude now

it's still real to me, dammit!

Im gonna disagree with with the comments on Orton. B4 his injury he was at his very best and his matches just b4 the taker angle were the highlights of raw every week, it was like they`d figured out he was at the solid mid-card level and he was back there pulling of a good match every week. Orton (imo) has a solid non-flashy ring style that works a lot like a young trips or a stone cold. The jury is still out on his mike-work, as a heel excellent as a face non-existant, i know some people blame the writers for this but the best draws get over no matter what they are given. Overall as a package Orton is destined for the big time but WWE might have to take a step back with him to make big strides forward later.

Exactly. Orton is still very young, he doesn't need to be forced down our throats anymore. The same applies with Shelton, although he hasn't been forced down our throats. If they let these guys mature at their own rate and come into their own, they will be the next stars of WWE.

BTW, This Shelton-Jericho fued is win-win. Jericho is refreshing in his new role (they don't need to turn him) and Shelton is improving outside the ring by having such a strong performer to work with.

I wish my sex life was like ECW, first you get a One Night Stand followed by 2 months of nostalgic orgasms and then 6 months of constant sucking.

yeah, I sure do hope Shelton gets a good run in the WWE, no complaints from me as to how they are using him.

his match at backlash with Jericho was one of the only decent things about that predictable PPV, and im sure he will continue to deliver for the rest of the year.

I think Shelton hasn't had the attention is because that may come later in the reign - will he take the all-time crown? It's possible they're saving that gimmick for down the line..
