Test Interview

Is up on JV's home page. Here are the details.

Online now *only* for Kingpin Members is part one of my exclusive audio interview with former WWE superstar, Andrew "Test" Martin. Among the topics discussed in this 30 minute portion of the interview are...

- How a chance meeting with Bret Hart led to a WWE career
- Leaving everything behind at home to move to Calgary and train with Bret
- Running into Chris Jericho in Calgary shortly after moving there
- The "Wayne Newton's Bodyguard" gimmick
- How Test was supposed to be a new member of D-Generation X and why it didn't happen
- Training with Dory Funk in the Funkin' Dojo
- Whether he thinks Bret Hart will accept a WWE Hall of Fame induction
- Spending time with Motley Crue as part of the Crue bodyguard gimmick
- Debuting as a member of The Corporation and how wrestlers in the back reacted
- The criticism of being a Kevin Nash clone and how Test feels about that
- Disappointment at not completing the Triple H/Stephanie McMahon Vegas marriage storyline
- Having to wrestle at Over the Edge 1999 right after Owen Hart fell to his death
- Defending JBL and rookie "initiations"
- Thoughts on Mike "Crash Holly" Lockwood and Chris Candido
- The nagging injury suffered during a hardcore match with Gangrel
- Forming a tag team with T&A and Test's thoughts on being apart of it
- WWE's purchase of the WCW brand and the influx of talent into WWE
- His short-term title reigns in 2001 and how the belts meant nothing
- Thoughts on whether WWE has two many PPVs
- His favorite match of all time
- Thoughts on the "Testicles" idea and why it didn't last

Well I'm shit out of luck. I'd like to hear what he thought about wrestling after Owen Hart died. That's messed up...

Wait, JV interviewed him? Does Test know all the things that Jimmy said about him over the years?

Test was cool, we spoke a little before I rolled tape. He's not a huge Internet guy so it's not like he read my Raw reviews every week, but he was familiar with me, possibly because of the site, or because of our respective backgrounds in Toronto. He holds no grudges about anything whether it be criticism, his WWE release or anything else, and so it made for a good, open conversation.

That's cool. I just thought it was ironic, because you were pretty critical of Test during his tenure with WWE

I saw him outside MSG after WMXX and he was very friendly and cordial. I didnt speak to him personally, but a bunch of other fans did, and he seemed pretty cool. I was a little surprised actually, because I had heard rumors of him being kinda arrogant.

LOL. So you didn't run through your ideas of him forming a tag team with another wrestler called "The Two Maroons"?

At six foot six and over 250lbs, I wouldn't have done either!!!

Actually I think I wanted to call them The Big Maroons It was Test and Heidenreich I think. And funny enough, before Test got hurt WWE started teaming him and Heidenreich in dark matches on Raw.
