Legion of Doom, The Nasty Boys, The Hart Foundation, Demolition, The Steiner Brothers, and the list goes on and on...
These are teams that were just as beloved and esteemed as many of the great singles wrestlers of the same eras. As time has gone on these teams have faded, and with them, the interest in tag team wrestling has also begun to fade. A few breaths of life having kicked back into the division, with such historic teams as The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boys, Edge and Christian, and some others. But, even then, it was obvious that the tag team division was nowhere near what it was years ago.
I remember a time when I had dream matches not just consisting of one on one confrontations, but even between some of our favorite teams. Right now, at this point in WWE history, I honestly cannot think of two current teams that could be pitted against each other to create what would be a dream match to millions of fans. You could do that back then. There were teams like that. You could put them together in a wrestling ring and it generate just as much hype as Hogan/Warrior.
I wish we could get that back. It seems that WWE is trying, with the reformation of The Rockers. But, it's going to take alot more than just that. Old school tag teams thrived off of gimmicks. That's what made them stand out and seem so cool. WWE seems to be lending away from using gimmicks with their tag teams and moreso, creating random teams of already established superstars that last for a few weeks, maybe a month.
I think some of these OVW prospects should be packaged together as credible teams with original gimmicks.
What do you guys think?
