JBL: Did they pull the trigger too quickly?

After watching mania on Sunday night I could not help but be underwhelmed by the "co-main event." The way things went down, im sorry but to have a wwe match that lasts only 10minutes at the biggest show of them all is rubbish. Futher to that it not only down grades smackdown! but more importantly tarnishes the image of the wwe title, one that contains the history of all the proud wwf/wwe champions of the past, but also those great wcw superstars like Sting, Flair etc.

Now last night, we all agreed that this match seemed like a US title match at smackdown, and it also did not feel like a special momment as JBL owned Cena for 90% of the match, then Cena did his routine, 1, 2, 3! New champ. Now, I know all the smarks out there rubbish JBL for his in ring skills, but wrestling romantics like me look past those short commings and focuses on JBL's strenghts, his gimmick, the importance he places on the title itself etc.
Cena threw his US title around like the street thug that he is, but if you recieve the holy grail in our great sport, the respect you must give to it must be a paramount consideration.

I know hindsight indeed a powerful thing but, had we known the main event would have sent everyone home happy (and well done to both HHH and Batista for putting on such a great show, particularly HHH for putting Batista over so strongly) I would have made a greater maina momment, if JBL retained, in a shock clean but well deserved victory. Cena could have gone away, trianed up and re-challenge him finally going over in a gimmic match in his own momment. Batistas momment took away from Cena's victory and thus the effect was not as strong as the wwe intended.

Also to have "the longest reigning champion in 10 years" retain at maina would have been a great momment in my eyes. JBL is a great gimmick and personality who is one of the only figures in an oral argument that has the goods to go with HHH and I look forward to seeing a fued between these too, now that they have lost their respective championships.

They pulled the trigger on the JBL title reign too quickly and now they must pay the penalty of a Cena champion reign that came too soon.

very well put, i concur. i like jbl and while i see that he's slow in the ring, i wouldn't say he's awful by any stretch. he looks like a guy that could pound the other guys and that's what he does. his gimmick is good and he makes great faces.
the batista win did take away the momentum that the "wonderful and really talented" (my ass) cena got by "his well deserved" win. but then, raw is the flagship brand, how could we forget as they continue to tell us that every week.
(ps, i don't know why, but everytime jbl's wrestled rey, it reminds me of a father beating his son who is, for some inexplicable reason, wearing a mexican wrestling mask.) call me crazy.

I dont know if it was pulled too quickly, just done in the wrong way.

If JBL lost a 30 minute match it would have been fine. Also, Cena isnt the best person to pick right now. I would have loved to see Angle win the title, and feud with JBL. I think it would be excellent.

Cena bores me to tears, and people pretty soon will realize how one dimentional he is. His moveset is horrible, and so aren't his wrestling skills. I'm not trying to hate him totally, but he just doesnt seem like world title material.

And I agree with Jackie JBL's faces are priceless. That snicker, the pissed face, the guy is a great charecter. At first I was so mad he was champ, but he's really done great with the title.

Now they are changing the title, and putting a spinner on it. Fuck WHY? Stupid stupid stupid, why must they ruin the belt like this. Makes it seem like a piece of crap. It's almost worse than having Dave Arquete win the title.

The way I see it, they pushed JBL too fast too early last year, and for the first few months of his title reign it just didn't feel right. After a while, though, his promo skills made up for his rushed elevation to a main-eventer, and it finally started to feel like the title fit him. And right after that he loses the belt. So they pushed him too early AND ended his push too quickly, if that makes any sense.

Simon, please pull up some threads from when JBL was first made champion. I seem to remember everyone hating him becoming champ and said his reign would be garbage. I`d justlike to see who has changed their minds because I for one want to see Bradshaw out of the Main Event. JBL was never championship quality and no amount of creative heel circumstances made me want to see him beaten or win. He just bored me and when someone who bores you has 6 segments of smackdown every week what do you end up doing? Turning off. JBL = rating killer.

I don't care much for Cena as a wrestler but at least he is rubbish in the ring but over with the crowd. JBL is neither. A very poor champion replaced by somebody who will be probably be a very poor champion. Doesn't make me happy or sad either way, the really sad thing is having to debate which two of these goons is the most/least worthy.

Yes. I totally agree with this, I have said in another post that JBL made the title something again and a few things have taken away from it already.

The way Cena won DIDN'T do anything for the title, I missed Smackdown so am hoping there is no spinny belt yet either.

I personally would have had JBL retain the title, it gives that shock factor and so when Cena finally beats him its like "the best thing to happen"

But...

I just don't see Cena as a worthy title holder, I would have much prefered Booker T, Eddie... I know Eddie would never have been a choice because of WM20 but I feel Cena is going to take away from the title.
