Edge Storyline Submissions

Unfortunetly it doesnt look as if many people were interested in writing out a long storyline for a book. Here are the submissions below. The winner will be decided by Jimmy Van.

Submission 1

04.03.05: Wrestlemania XXI
All 5 other men are down in the ring and at ringside, when Edge regroups, climbs the ladder, and grabs the briefcase. Just as he starts to pull down the briefcase with the contract in it, Chris Benoit re-enters the ring and knocks over the ladder, causing Edge to fall to the canvas. The briefcase swings back and forth, but falls down to the ring and Benoit grabs it and is declared the victor.

04.04.05: Raw
Edge opens the show and states that he has something to say. He recaps he and Benoit’s past disputed finishes over the World Championship. He says that he knows the crowd expects him to complain about how he was screwed and how he deserves the belt, but the outcome of the match at Wrestlemania opened his eyes to some advice he had gotten not too long ago. The video of Shawn Michaels’ talk with Edge, talking about acting instead of complaining from earlier this year is shown. Edge says that what happened at Wrestlemania happened, and instead of talking about it, he’s going to do something about it. He says that in a 1-on-1 match, neither man has pinned the other or made the other submit. So, just like Shawn Michaels did with Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania, Edge says it’s time for Edge and Benoit to finally prove who is the better man. He challenges him to a match at Backlash.

The Next Few Weeks on Raw…
Benoit accepts Edge’s challenge. Edge keeps his heelisms toned down, but is still very cold and focused.

05.01.05: Backlash
Edge and Benoit have a very clean match for 20+ minutes. Edge wins the match cleanly with a spear.

05.02.05: Raw
Edge comes out to the ring to gloat about his victory over Benoit. He puts over the fact that he pinned Benoit clean 1-2-3. Originally, he wanted to go into this match purely to prove who the better man was. But, since he clearly was the better man, he wants more. He calls Benoit out to the ring. Edge lays out the challenge to Benoit that he wants another match, this time at Vengeance and for the “Money In The Bank” contract. Benoit says that if Edge is so confident that he is truly the better man, then he should put his money where his mouth is and make the match a best-of-3-falls match. That way, there would be no doubt as to who the better man was. Edge agrees to the match and as Benoit turns around to leave the ring, Edge attacks him, assaulting him with anything and everything at ringside.

The Next Few Weeks On Raw…
Benoit and Edge are put into tag matches on opposing teams that end up in huge, heated brawls, causing DQ finishes each time. Eric Bischoff says that he doesn’t want to see a match with as much on the line as their match at Vengeance end in a DQ because these two have so much hatred for each other. So, Bischoff decides that not only will the match be a best-of-3-falls match, it will be a Three Stages of Hell match – a street fight, a submission match, and a ladder match. This way, the winner will have to earn his way to the contract.

06.26.05: Vengeance
Edge takes the first fall via pinfall after a DDT on a chair. Benoit takes the second fall with the Crippler Crossface. In the final fall, Edge grabs a set of handcuffs that he has stashed under the ring, handcuffs Benoit to the ring rope, and climbs the ladder to grab the briefcase with the contract in it.

The Next Few Weeks On Raw…
Edge teases a few times that he may opt to have his World Title match on the spot – taunting Batista to his face, and in promos. He starts going to ringside to “scout” Batista, so that when the opportunity is right, he will be ready to challenge him for the belt.

After he does this for the fourth week, Shawn Michaels approaches him backstage and says that he is impressed with Edge’s progress that stemmed from his “pep talk” a few months back. He reminds Edge that there is no bigger and better way to prove your greatness than to win your first World Title at Wrestlemania – just like he did at Wrestlemania XII. Now, ten years later, Edge can finally realize his dream by winning his first World Title at Wrestlemania 22.

During this time, Edge frequently uses his briefcase with the contract (which he has become inseparable from) as a weapon and a means by which to win matches. In one particular match, pairing Edge & Christian against Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit, Edge uses the briefcase to knock out Jericho – causing a concussion. Jericho later challenges him to a match at Summerslam.

08.21.05: Summerslam
Edge pulls out a hard-fought victory over Chris Jericho to open the show.

Later in the show, Batista successfully defends the World Title against Kurt Angle (traded to Raw in the draft). Just as the bell rings and Batista is announced the winner, Edge comes running out of the crowd, clocks Batista with the briefcase, and gets on the mic to announce that he chooses to have his Championship match…RIGHT NOW. Edge then pins Batista for the three count to win his first World Championship.

Submission 2

Make Edge Champion

*WM21 – Money In The Bank Match*

[Benjamin and Jericho take themselves out of the match after Edge and Christian push them off a ladder. Kane and Benoit are duking it out, until E+C enter with chairs, take out Kane with a chair shot and spear, and then attempt to ‘conchairto’ Benoit. Chris Benoit dodges the conchairto, and they do the ‘stinging fingers’ spot after striking chairs together. Benoit starts beating on Christian whilst Edge smartly shrinks into the corner, allowing the Crippler to work him over. After a series of German Suplexes, Benoit can let Christian go, only for Edge to strike him down with a spear. As Edge sets up the ladder and climbs, Benoit attempts to climb up, but Edge beats him down and takes the case and title shot.]

*Following Raw*

[Batista is in the ring, as newly crowned WWE Champion. Edge interrupts his promo, and warns him to be careful. Edge warns Batista that he may have had the psychological advantage over HHH going into WM, but nobody can have the psychological advantage over Edge. Edge leaves, with Batista looking calm, but confused.]

*Over the next few weeks, Edge would rest on his “I have a title shot and I can have it whenever I want” gimmick. He would go on winning matches, some against lesser opponents, some against high mid-carders. A programme with someone traded over from Smackdown might also be good, give him something fresh. Batista would have a feud with HHH until Backlash, where he beats the Game.*

*Batista carries on as dominant champion, wrestling various matches on Raw, and then have varying interruptions. Batista keeps rolling through people despite these interruptions – such as pyro going off, a masked ‘fan’ jumping over the security barrier, superstar’s music, etc. This carries on for about 5/6 weeks after Backlash, until, the 6th week in, he is finally cost a singles match against Christian to wrap the show up with an upset victory. (I choose Christian because I feel a rub like this could only do him the world of good)*

*Finally, the next week, Big Dave confronts Bischoff about it. Eric claims he knows nothing about it, despite trying to find out for several weeks. He hints he has his ideas… and Dave merely grunts “Edge.” before leaving Eric’s office. Later in the show, Batista walks into Edge’s locker room, and asks him what he thinks he’s doing. Edge plays it nonchalantly, saying he doesn’t know who’s behind the interruptions. But he does say that already he has a psychological advantage over Dave, before asking him to leave his locker room. Dave reluctantly leaves, and Edge smirks for the final shot of the vignette.*

*The next week, Bischoff sets up E+C versus Dave Batista and Shelton Benjamin. The match continues as normal, until after about 10 minutes, Edge and Batista finally get tagged in at the same time to face each other. After circling the ring, the lights go out. They stay off momentarily, until they light back up, and Benoit is stood behind Batista with the World Title belt. He strikes Dave down with it, much to the surprise of Edge and Christian – Christian who is meanwhile beating down on Benjamin outside the ring. The show ends, with Benoit as a new heel.*

*Next week, Benoit explains his actions, saying that he hasn’t held the title since losing it to the Legend Killer. He explains that since then, he has had little to no opportunity to prove himself as World Champ material, and so he took the fight to the champ. Batista enters, to say that that’s fine, but jumping someone isn’t good in his book. Batista then simply says “See you at Vengeance.” He leaves, and Benoit looks pleased.*

*At Vengeance (Where the gimmick of Batista getting ‘vengeance’ on Benoit for jumping him), Benoit and Batista square off for the WWE Title. After 20 minutes or so of wrestling a fairly even match, the lights go out again. They re-light fairly promptly, with nothing having happened. They continue to wrestle, until they go out again. Again, when they relight, nothing has changed. This happens again, and upon coming back on, they show Edge sat in the corner. He spears Dave as he turns round to see him, causing the match to go to a DQ. Show ends with Edge paying off Benoit with a case of cash, and JR putting over his wicked deeds.*

*Edge explains how he bought off Benoit’s help using the extra cash he’s made since winning at WM21. Benoit explains his actions as ‘making a statement’ – and also being promised a World title shot if Edge wins when he challenges the champ. Dave seems to finally showing signs of his calm exterior cracking, but not many. A few subtle mannerisms would work.*

*A few weeks before Summerslam, Edge states to Bischoff that he wants to challenge Batista at the Summerslam PPV. Bischoff says that is fine, and he signs the match. Have Edge outwitting Batista on distractions, dodging Batista’s attacks and so on, until finally Dave takes out his aggression on a low-carder, and destroys them in a match. He returns to his calm exterior the next week, but JR and King put over how Edge may have levered himself an advantage.*

*The Summerslam match ends with Edge taking the title clean after Batista’s rage gets the better of him. I think this feud could work for several reasons. Edge is shown as a conniving, slimy, calculated character who craves the title rather than a psycho who just bores everyone. Benoit gets a push and fresh heel turn, Christian gets a win over Batista, and Batista, whilst made to look weak-ish for losing his cool, keeps his winning streak alive.*
