Let me throw my hat into the ring here quick since it was my decision.
Chris Jericho's Canadian
PR rep called me a couple of weeks ago. He asked me if I'd help promote the Fozzy CD (All That Remains) and offered to send me copies of the CD to do with whatever I wanted. He then asked if I would interview Jericho. Now I've done a lot of interviews before through my background in the AWA and with other independents, and while interviewing can be fun, I'm a little tired of it. It takes a lot of research (as Simon can tell you) and I've been spending so much time every day transitioning content from the old site to the new site, I really didn't have the time or the interest to put together an interview.
Now to be completely upfront, I first considered asking Vicki Lynn Brown to interview Jericho. I've known Vicki for a long time, and she's earned a lot of respect with the crew down at OVW. But then I thought of Simon, and I thought about how much time and effort he puts into the Forum, and how genuinely interested he is in helping out with the site. I knew that he had no experience with interviewing (whereas Vicki does), but I also knew that he'd never had the opportunity to do any interviews, and you have to start somewhere. So even though it probably would have been better for me to start him off with an indy worker, I decided to cut him loose on Jericho. After all, if you're going to start with a WWE worker, you'll be hard pressed to pick somebody better than Jericho; Y2J is an intelligent, good natured, respectable guy, and I knew that while he would probably sense Simon's inexperience, he'd be cool about it.
That pretty much sums it up.
