What makes a better champ- Heel or Face?

I been reading a lot of the posts lately and I hear people mentioning Orton was better as a heel and JBL wouldn't make a good face champ. Now I know that those examples deal strictly with the characters but I was thinking what makes the better champ over all?

When It comes down to it, I think a heel makes a better champ because when they start out, usually it is better to cheat so that you can continue feuds and not make someone else look weak who may be a future champ. I think HHH and JBL do this really well and that is one good point to having them as champ. Although it hasn't always worked out that way, but I blame that on the booking and writing.

I say heel, what say YOU?

I say heel also. Face champs just bore the hell out of me because it seems like they have to hold back or something and not say what they really would. (Not their fault of course because it is WWE's Decision). Anyway, like when a guy like Rock or Austin was champ they never really changed there character either. So it could be argued that guys should just stay with what brought them to the dance, like Orton should have been treated, or how Batista should be booked if he wins.

One thing that I really can't stand is how when most guys become a heel they run away from the faces all the time, like they are bitch. Another thing I hate is when faces are booked to be unstoppable when two weeks prior they were losing clean on Velocity or the mid-card.

I say heel. To me, with a heel as a champion, then they can cheat and have people run in and help them to win and it will get the crowd against them more. And by continuously doing it month after month the crowd will eventually utterly hate anything this person does and once they lose it will come as a great relief and it will build up the face who beats him since the hell was unable to win to do cheating. This is what is basically happening right now with JBL on Smackdown. A face as champ I feel is much boring since they can't cheat and are less entertaining.

Good point Rambo. A heel champ really does get just pure hatred from the crowd when they have the title for a long time, and with the right storyline a face who beats that heel after his long tenure will look really good out of it.

Storylines are generally better with a heel champ. Like when Benoit was chasing HHH. Whether or not you like how Benoit was booked as champion, I think he gets louder cheers now after beating HHH at WMXX. And it was a huge deal when he made HHH tap. Just like it will be a big deal when JBL finally loses.

The biggest problem with a heel champ is that not only when they win, but when they defend the title, the PPVs always end on a downer. Sometimes they can avoid it, like at No Way Out how Batista and Cena came out an cleaned house. But usually, the heel cheats to win and the crowd goes home unhappy.

Its kind of a Catch-22 for the writers.

I don't think it really mattered at No Way Out, nobody really cared whether Big Show won or not. But generally, you are right.

For Wrestlemania, if say HHH-Batista was the last match of the night and HHH took it, I think everyone would be devastated...It could potentially kill viewers at home. So they need to think this through. If Batista isn't going home with the title then an interpromotional match or JBL-Cena should go last.

Wrestlemania tends to have a face winning the championship but theres no doubt that for the majority of the wrestling calendar a Heel champ pays off. Is more fun to see a Heel beaten for a strap than a Face retain. People want to see that. PPV`s need to give them the chance to see that to keep on being sucessful. How much do "you" want to see JBL or HHH drop the strap. How much would "you" just want to see Cena or Batista retain?

overall i enjoy heels more in any situation, just more fun. i've always loved the bad guy. it is a good point though that ppv's/ matches can suck b/c a heel will always use a run-in rather than win/lose clean. but it seems like wwf is resorting to run-ins more and more lately anyway in hopes that niether guy will look bad, instead the whole thing looks bad when it happens nightly.
i agree w/ simon that they're both necessary, but i prefer to hate the faces.
sometimes tweeners are great, like stone cold and dx. where they're bad but the crowd loves them anyway, that is what they must do w/ batista or he will follow orton's path of crap.

Tweeners are definetly the way to go. I had my kid on my lap earlier, otherwise I would have elaborated more.

SCSA was perfect. He didnt give a shit about anyone. And when he took to someone, that person was given an instant rub because he could hang with Austin.

Its really quite stupid when you think about it. Because Kane is a face now, JR cant mention his trying to burn him. Because Orton is a heel Foley would have to give him a cheap pop.

I get real tired of faces liking all the faces and heels liking all the heels.

I realize its not really the question, but its my answer.

Think about it.
