A lot of people in this forum have commented about Batista being a squash machine, Youre Wrong. Dig out a few tapes from 9 months back when evolution were The Horsemen. Watch him in the tag matches when he & Flair were champs. He sold more than Flair and thats saying something. The guy is not Chris Benoit or HBK or even, dare say it in this place without recieving abuse, a HHH. But on the same score he`s a guy with tremendous heat right now and he can carry his own, compare him to other recent OVW bigmen and he looks like Ricky Steamboat. It is the right time to give him the strap purely on crowd reaction. I agree with purist that it would have been better for him to go 25/30 mins with a few stars on PPV first but to hold back the enivitible HHH payoff would possibly kill his career. So basically all you doubters tell me Im wrong after he has to do some work at Backlash. Until then enjoy the fact that WWE has entertained us with this one.
Kajay, you beat me to it, Batista is nothing like Goldberg in terms of a squash machine. Batista can make opponents look good - he's merely getting such a run at the moment to give him heat and momentum going into Mania.
I've loved him since he debuted on SD!, (Yes, even as the Deacon), and I can't see why he can't sustain a role in the main event. The guy has a good character, he's good on the mic, he's got heat, he has a great look, he's a strong, powerful guy and.. I suppose this is all opinion and conjecture, but I think he is great in the ring. Perhaps he could do with widening his arsenal a bit, but not many wrestlers are strong all-rounders (Other than Eddie and Kurt at the moment). I guess I just like his power arsenal.
I hate the comparisons between Lesnar and Batista. I think it's drawn from the fact that Batista is the first guy in WWE to be pushed in a similar way since Brock left. And he's a big guy too, I guess.
Personally, I think Big Dave will be a big time player.

Like I said, I love Batista the way his character has developed and he has grown in the ring no doubt. I love the storyline with HHH.
The only thing I question, and maybe it's unfair to judge just yet, but I'm not sure he can go at someone for 25-30 minutes. A 10-15 minute match can be great, but I don't want someone who is champion doing 10 minute main events all the time. That's where the Goldberg comparison comes in, because Goldberg had no ring psychology whatsoever. Power move after power move, and then he was done, which is fine, but I don't want that type of shit going on in main events of PPV's that I'm paying $35 for.
I'm excited to see what Batista is really made of, because I really do want him to be a success.
I really love his mellow attitude outside the ring and then his complete animal attitude inside but I do not see him as a long term champ. I would llike to see him on top for maybe 3 months and then lose it cause I just don't think this is the guy that WWE can rest their hopes for 2005 on. I think that Edge is the way to go this year. We know he can wrestle he, can also go with just about anybody, and the whiny heel thing has always made me laugh. I say Edge takes the belt from Batista in June. Batista has not impressed me in the ring. Unless they want to go with the Goldberg thing and have him destroy his opponents I don't think he can work for too long.
I think Big D can do ring psychology, but you're right in that he still has to prove himself. I think he can do it though. But..
Edge? Edge?!? EDGE?!?? The guy is bland, bland, dishcloth-bland. He's got a crappy gimmick, he's crappy in the ring, and he's getting pushed where Christian and others should be. He doesn't have a great look either really, I always think he's really skinny. Edge is never going to be a main eventer because he is NOT over. He could be in the future, but for now, he just wouldn't fly, and he needs a better character, something fresh.

Batista man he's grown on me a ton lately. I really didnt like him, and was like what the hell when so many people were into him, but he's been cutting some great angles/promos. He's a pro as far as that goes now. At first I was like this guy seems like he'd have no mic ablity, presents in general, but he's been doing awsome. His in ring ability is pretty good, I've noticed a lot of people get obsessed with saying big guys cant wrestle. Truth is people were fine with this type of wrestling for the most part through the 90's. Even people like the Undertaker still wrestle pretty good, but most people try to play it off like he's complete crap
Batista has improved on the mic, but his wrestling skills are still the same. However, the way they book him as "The Animal" makes his lack of abilities less noticeable and therefore more entertaining. it would be great if he were ready to be the man, but let's be honest in Trips' world only HE can be the man and no one else - ugh!
This is a great topic. I am also very impressed with all the well thought out, but completely different views.
Nobody is really right or wrong here.
I believe the one thing that keeps sticking out is the fact that people are concerned that he doesnt have enough moves or that he doesnt have the spots/moves to carry a main event of a PPV for 20-30 minutes.
I think Batista is doing just fine in the ring. There are PLENTY of WWE wrestlers that they should be more concerned about. He can work with people. He may not be Benoit, Jericho or Angle but not many are.
This dude will get over with his size, power moves and complete slickness outside of the ring.
The true impact of his face turn and eventually the title run wont be felt until the HHH vs. Batista angle wears out a few months after the fact.
It's about time......now bring on his next fued....
Batista is in a great storyline and I think thats the only reason why people love the guy right now. Anyone one else in this storyline would get over imo. This is by far the best storyline in ages (at least since the Christian/Y2J/Trish thing). A year ago this man was getting booed to hell. I think he has improved and he has even grown on me alot, but I dont want him as the main man and like Steveo said, heisonly gonna be good for 3 months. After that his hype will wear out. I also think that inside the ring he overacts, which makes for shit performances. Again, like everyone else here, im just a fan not an expert
