5 would be just right. The existence of the 10 other PPV's seems to make the company jump the gun with feuds and rush turns and angles. 5 pay per views would enable the writers to give feuds some momentum and allow them to tell a proper story.
Having said that, the writers they have now would still mess it up somehow.
Vince only done 12 because Eric done 12. Now there is no competition there is no need for over saturation.
You look at when there were 4 PPVs a year. Champions reigned longer, Angles were slow burned.. and one or two matches were enough to settle a feud.. not weekly Raw tag matches and three constcutive PPV matches with different stips. A match could build for a good 3 months and you were clamouring to see it as opposed to saying 'Christ, not Michaels and HHH AGAIN'
The belts would be more prestigious and the holders would be more credible.
The downside of the old format however was that the WWF Title was only defended twice a year in a High Profile matches. Sure you had your Hogan vs Haku on SNME but there were only two big defences a year. But now we could have the odd big occaision raw or SD thrown in here and there like the iron man matches and whatnot
The amount of hours WWF TV has nowadays, every match on a quarterly PPV can be built up adequately
I agree that WWE doesn't need 12 PPVs a year because matches would seem to have a lot more importance behind them.
However, as far as champions having longer reigns I don't think so. Triple H had the World Title for like 9 months and people were throwing fits over it. JBL currently has a 7 or 8 month reign going and people still don't think he is a credible world champ.
What kind of long title reigns are you talkin about?
People thought Bruno Sammartino was the shit cuz he was someone who looked just like them and talked like them and then went and beat people's ass. Factor that in with the fact that most fans probably still thought the matches were real and it allowed them to keep the title on the guy for almost eight years. Then the next guy could also have a huge impact cuz it's like, what the hell? this guy is bad ass cuz he beat the champ who had the title forever, and the WWWF could play off of that.
Now fans have so many other options like video games or the net or whatever and they go do something else if they feel wrestling is getting boring. They have other sources of entertainment. Plus, a guy like Triple H doesn't exactly look like the average person, so while to some he may be a larger than life hero, to others he can't relate to the average man and that's what that type of fan would rather root for, an average looking everyday working man.
I just don't think a reign longer than a year can work unless the guy has some sick sick sick ability to wrestle and be great on the mic at the same time.
I'm not sure I see a guy like that out there right now.
If thats true Vince is a dumbass because WCW wasent successful, Why follow something that dident end up being better.
But WCW was better.. for numerous weeks in the ratings war (See - NWO). Also the mass exodus of wrestlers from WWF to WCW is also proof of that. Its also a fact that at one stage during the monday night wars.. the WWF was on the verge of bankrupcy thanks to WCW. Ted Turner had the advantage of owning a network and granting whatever timeslot WCW wished... Vince couldnt compete with that sort of power or capitol at the time
I think 12 is ok cos u know ur paying once a month but 14 or 15 sucks ass. KOTR would be cool tho as it would mean twice a yr a title shot is up for contention between both brands if they had that stip again. Also these one brand ppvs need to improve drastically. The new yrs one sucked monkey nipples for sure. Comeon after the 1st 2 matches got cut short they could have at least let shelton and maven have a match not talk and bore me more.
