WWE commentators (Who sucks, who improved, who should go!)
This thread was all my idea.....
Ok, seriously though, who is the best at their job right now? It seems that over the years JR and King don't know how to change with the times and have also on top of that gotten horrible on the mic.
With Tazz and Cole holding down SD! with solid work, Coach doing a good job at back up/fill in, what can or should Vince do? JR has a solid place in WWE and I highly doubt he would step down. Vince had fired him before but would he remove him and keep him back stage?
I remember being so happy when they brought King back after he walked out. Looking back now I wish they never had and maybe JR would have moved on. But we are still stuck with them week after week and I know that it is not always a good thing to be so negative when I am not in their shoes, but they really do a lousy job and something needs to be done.
I really would like to see RAW get a new brodcasting team. I really like Paul Heyman. Maybe they should train Tony Schiavone a little and bring him in. Or better yet, the guy from TNA, forgot his name. I would just like to see someone new. JR and The King are so stale, it aint funny. JR is good and all, but The King's gotta go. But like I said, I would like an all new team.
Listen Tazz is the best right now. He always knows what he is talking about and doesn't try to make the fans out to be complete idiots. JR can still call a big match well from time to time but often forgets what he is saying or makes a match between Val Venis and Rob Conway out to be the greatest match in years.
Coach is great at being a heel and is a good speaker, but I think WWE can do more with him than just being a regular announcer.
Cole pisses me off to no end, when he talks about everything being the most disgusting display he has ever seen. He isn't as girly as he once was though.
Lawler knows puppies and nothing else. And how many times did he bring up Booker T's criminal record. He beats shit dead to no end and adds zero to the match. He should be fired.
And Josh mathews is way too girly and Maria doesn't know what town she is even in. And she ain't that hot. Candace is way hotter on Raw.
Why is that not creative, it doesn't yet exist does it? Use Tazz's knowledge of every wrestling hold known to man, along with his selling of the intracies of the match, added with JR's emotion, and selling of angles and you got a top notch team.
As for Smackdown....screw it, put em on both shows. Hey, I like what I like. Heh heh.
Tazz is easily MVP of the WWE announce team as a whole right now. He does a heck of a job in making a match out to be a WRESTLING match, because he tells you how a hold will hurt or why a wrestler is attacking a particular part of a body at any point in the match. It makes the wrestlers look smart for having some kind of strategy in the match, and it makes the match that much more 'real', and thats whats entertaining. Stuff like him talking about how a pump handle powerslam wrenches the shoulder of a guy, disorientates him and knocks the wind out of him all at the same time; making the hold seem like a devastating maneover.
I enjoyed his commentary with JR at last year's Royal Rumble and I hope they do it again. JR works well when he has a decent colour guy to bounce off, and when King was fresh, or was playing the heel announcer it worked well. Heyman was working OK with JR at WrestleMania X7 and was improving, but then King came back after Survivor Series that year, and it got stale really quickly. JR is like no other when it comes to describing a high spot in a match. He has a great sense of timing and he can read emotions on guys faces and just let the pictures do the talking when needs be. Cole is nowhere near that subtle and treats it like its radio, describing each and every event on camera.
I agree with Lynch that Tazz and JR would make (and have made) an awesome announce team. I think Al Snow would make a good announcer on SmackDown if he could do it in the same style as Tazz rather than being this zany, over the top colour guy that people expect him to be. They don't really have a great deal of choice in-house at WWE.
There's Ivory, who is crap. There's Bill DeMott, who is crap. There's Cole, who can be half decent, there's Grisham, who is crap. There's Tazz, who is great. There's JR, who is great but stale. There's King, who is crap these days. There's Coach, who could be good but needs to learn timing and consistency. There's Josh Matthews, who is crap, and then there's the divas who are all abysmal.
I don't really enjoy Mike Tenay enough to want him in WWE, and I don't enjoy Tony Schiavone either. I guess a guy like Shane Douglas wouldn't be bad, but he's burned so many bridges in WWE that there is no way in hell he'd announce. Jesse Ventura was awesome, but he's a politician these days. I think a guy like Roddy Piper could do a great job in the announce position with JR. He's got the credentials to be a solid heel competitor and he's got the fire and passion to do it properly too.
Piper was the man when he was announcing on saturday mornings. I think Vince held him back though. I hate Vince as an announcer. By far my favorite team of all time was Jesse Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon. Man that team was good. Gorilla could call the action, Jesse could describe the holds and if need be take the heels side in a match or even make you laugh from time to time.
Tazz is awesome, yes. Although, I didn't like when they tried to turn him heelish. He's best at his work when he can just be himself. I don't even notice Cole because Tazz is so awesome at the mic.
JR & King (i.e. The Village People) are stuck in a routine that offers nothing and is annoying to listen to. At one time, they were great. JR must be distracted with his other duties in WWE, while King is too busy being a pervert to call a match.
So then, that leaves Coach by himself. He'd do for the color commentary, but he would need someone with him, the bland play-by-play guy. Who would that be? No more JR, thanks. No Cole, keep him with Tazz until someone better comes along. Their only option right now would be Matthews, who's currently on Smackdown. Coach & Matthews? Meh, I dunno about that either. I'd have to see it in action before I judge it, I guess.
