Shining Wizard

I just wanted to get everyone's take about the incredible job Rob Van Dam has been doing in the tag division over the last year or so. I have always been a huge RVD fan and I was extremely pissed that Vince decided to push other guys ahead of him(JBL, Heidencrap, Edge) when during the whole Invasion angle he was probably the most over guy in the whole company. Instead of capitalizing on his popularity the writers instead chose to let him wallow away in the mediocrity that is the WWE tag division. I mean pick either Raw or Smackdown and you see you weak these tag divisions are, the belts changing between 2 solid teams for each respective brand, La Resistance for Raw and the Dudley's on Smackdown, and whatever makeshift team the writers have run out of ideas for.
What I have seen though over the last few weeks is how well Van Dam has adjusted his style to suit the tag matches. When he and Booker were the tag champs on Raw you saw both of them incorporate several double team maneuvers that actually made them look like an actual team instead of two single mid carders just thrown together. When RVD started to tag with Mysterio I was initially apathetic considering that these two amazing performers were being wasted in Smackdown’s pathetic excuse for a tag division. Over the last few weeks however I have changed my mind. Both Mysterio and Van Dam work great together, and really compliment each other’s style. RVD is seemingly always doing a great job of setting Rey’s signature spots and I loved how on Thursday’s Smackdown Van Dam pretty much threw Rey around like a cannonball to gain the advantage over Kenzo and Dupree. In fact that whole tag title match on Thursday was pretty top notch so I give both teams a tremendous amount of credit. I guess now I hope they keep Rey and Rob together for a while, if not going after the tag straps than at least keep the partnership going as they had back to singles competition. I only hope Vince and company are noticing what a tremendous job these two are doing with absolutely no story outside of helping Torrie Wilson. Hopefully both Mysterio and RVD will be next in line to receive a huge push, unlikely but here’s hoping.

When RVD was hot I would argue that he was as hot as anyone ever was in wrestling.

Yeah, he does do a great job in tag wrestling. It almost takes away from the fact that he's ONLY doing tag wrestling.

I just wish he would get a new gimmick so to speak. I am tired of his same old look and mic work. I would be a bigger fan if he were to change his image.

Creature of the Night

His mic skills do suck, but he can turn it on in the ring.

Trouble being that these days performers need to be good at both or have a mouthpiece to cover for their lack of mic skills (ala Brock Lesnar, and basically anyone that Heyman has ever managed in WWE). RVD is a heck of an athelete, but he's been buried so far down the midcard that nobody cares about him enough to give him a pop. Its nice to see him but he hasn't done anything that would make you get up and say 'wow' since using the Van Terminator in his days with Kane, or his sole main event against Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kurt Angle.
