Things WWE are begining to get right (since jan 2004)

Everybody seems to be focusing on things wwe have messed up lately, and lets be honest they have messed up a lot over the last 3-4 years. but maybe its just me, but since January of this year, ive noticed that things are improving. Heres my examples of what i think are positives in recent memory.....

1 (not in order) :Benoit final getting the world championship strap.!

Its one thing which really makes scene in a logical scene, by that i mean the best wrestler becoming the champ. In my opinion Benoit is one of the best mat wrestlers ever and its about time he climbed to the top. He looked super strong when winning the Royal Rumble in Jan and was well booked by the WWE going into Wrestlemania. He desrves it and the WWE did the best they could since hes not the best when it comes to his chaismatic side or his speaking skills. Well done to both Chris and WWE on that one.

2. : Randy Orton.

2004 started brilliantly in respect to the booking of Randy Orton. he looked strong in the Rumble as he came off looking like a potential winner(until he was eliminated my Mick Foley). Then he was booked in a superb angle with Mick Foley, he came off looking even stronger and even more arrogent then ever. Even though Mick isnt in good condition, he and Orton had 2 great matchs (the tag match at WM and their One On One encounter.) They even teased his spilt with Triple H and Evolution brilliantly. They are currently telling a great story with them at the moment and hopefully it will result in him becoming a solid upper card player. The only thing i beieve the WWE did wrong was placing the strap on Orton too early, they rushed it but Orton is now looking more like a contender to crown and So if booked correctly can be the next Rock!

3. : Maven's heel turn

Now i know its early days, but now that the WWE has FINALLY and i mean FINALLLLLY turned Maven heel, things can only get better as the posibilitys are almost endless. He can become a ****y heel with the coach as a sidekick, or fill the void in evolution left by Randy Orton. only good can come of this.

Hopfully the WWE will pick up the ball as with respect to others Like :

Billy Kidman (extemely talented cruiserweight)
Paul London (same as above)
Matt Hardy (he needs a good angle when he returns)
Renee Dupree (looks like a huge talent and hes only 21 and if he progresses good he will be big)
Rey Mysterio (He needs to swich brands, hes getting stale on SD!)

Maven becoming a heel is good? Maven being fired is good not a heel turn. Dropkick, dropkick, dropkick.......... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

It was nice seeing Benoit finally get the title but it wasn't good. You have to be realistic and realize how awful of a champ he was. Eddie on the other hand finally got it and made a great champ.

I do agree with Orton being a good thing though.

Victory Road and Turning Point have shown how much better NWA TNA is getting and it was already better than the WWE. The WWE sucks and that is all that needs to be said.

I disagree with you there. Maven is a kick ass heel. If booked properly he'll be the next Rock easily. If they are smart they'll push him to the moon.

maven will blossom if booked correctly, he just needs a decent slow push, if they rush it it wont be pretty.

i do agree he needs a better arsenal but hes only in the business 3years so hes still learning.

his mannerisms are getting better by the week and soon he will become a heel in the simalar rock mold. i hope.....

This is the positive thead! go complain in the other one lol.

I think WWE is finally starting to develop long standing feuds with out rushing them. Look at the Cena/Carlito feud. Orton/HHH Orton/edge Batisata slowly turning. Maven slowly turning.

I agree with u IdaMAN as regards the Carilto / Cena feud, but i think the pushed Carlito too soon just like the JBL character. ive barely seen him wrestle but im slowly begining to like him as a personality. He reminds me of Razor Ramon but with ab apple in place of the toothpick.

Basically my point is that the WWE are slowly improving.

With Carlito's naturall ablity, I think it would be pretty hard to take it slow with a guy like him. He just has this commanding mic skills and personallity that would be a waste to not use ASAP.

Longstanding feuds were a mainstay of good WWE programming. I think WWE is starting to realise that they won't sell PPVs by half giving away PPV matches on free TV.

Id love to see the return of classic feuds where the wrestlers just don't touch eachother until the PPV bout ala Austin - HHH at No Way Out 2001, or Warrior vs Hogan at WrestleMania VI, or countless others. It just makes the anticipation that much greater. Theyre slowly getting there, stuff like the slow build of Trish vs Lita keeps me interested in that feud because the slower they build the easier it is to tie up into a satisfying blowoff.

Things that WWE has got right in 2K4? Dealing with the loss of main event talent like Lesnar, Goldberg, Austin and Rock well enough to put out a watchable product. I think thats an achievement in itself not counting what has already been mentioned above.

exactly, they need those angles back.

the HHH SCSA feud which lead to that match was great TV (starting with that pedigree before the game had signed, brill)

oh i forgot about the Y2J-TRISH angle, that was damn entertaining i loved that angle. its another example of how to slowly build an entertaining angle.

if they do that, which it seems they are doing with Batista at the moment, they will get my TV switched on.

Nice thread! A very positive one, very uncommon when it comes to prowrestling boards =D

Anyways, the roster is definitely getting younger, and WWE is doing a pretty good job with the guys staying past their prime / usefulness and hogging the spot light problem that they, and especially WCW had.

Stone Cold is gone, The Rock is out of the title picture, and Mick is doing part time. Don't get me wrong, I truely enjoyed it when these guys were on top and the attitude era was alive and kicking. But, McMahon is very wise ushering out older stars, and constantly making newer ones and not making any one star too important. Not that I am saying the problem is completely none existant (ie Triple H, The Undertaker sound like they have a lot of pull), but at least it longer feels like there is one guy who WWE just simply cannot afford lose (like Austin and Hogan back in their days).
