So what are your thoughts on the Simon Dean character so far?
Personally I enjoy his segments each week...I laughed my ass off when he dumped that orange stuff on the fat lady. I'm just wondering what there going to have him do in the ring, moves, etc.
The gimmick has been done to death. It wouldn't be so bad if they put a twist on it, but he's basically the 2004 version of Skip. When he finally gets in the ring and wrestles on television, I'll be interested to see his moves. Specifically, if he uses a the 'Nova' style or not.
Mid-card character at best. I've been impressed with Mike Bucci's charisma, since he's rather quiet and reserved when the cameras are off. But over-the-top wrestling gimmicks aren't meant for wrestling in 2004, which is why MMA has become so huge over the last few years (well, at least one of the reasons why). WWE may try to push Simon Dean to the main events eventually, but just because he might get there doesn't mean he'll be successful there. Mike Bucci is a good worker, but the gimmick just doesn't work as anything but a mid-card attraction.
Simon Dean is entertaining. Thats it. I think it's funny too, even though i have seen it before. Jimmy do you really think they want this character to be anything more than a mid-carder?
If they do, WWE really doesnt understand its audience! It's comic releif much like one of my favorites, the Hurricane.
I think that they wouldn't devote valuable live airtime to the character if they didn't see something in it that we all don't necessarily see. Short vignettes or matches would be enough for a mid-carder, in my opinion. But they've been giving the character live in-ring segments and devoting at least half of a quarter hour time block to it.
I like him as a wrestler, from what I remember of him as Nova, but his segments go on way too long, and WWE is waiting too long to give him an actual match.
