Are they onto us?

I agree with Simon that this should be a seperate topic so here we go.

Do you think WWE is onto us with with all the internet rumors and now starting to toss incorrect or made up stuff in order to throw us off? I think they are. Specially with how many people were surprised that Cena won his match. ( except for Mister D).

I think Vince finally realized that you can only ignore something for so long before it starts having an affect on the over all product and I think net fand do just that. Specially with this Taboo PPV and having fans vote for what they want to see, or at least leading us to believe it is us who are in control.

From Cena to Kane, and even Carmella, what everyone thought was going to happen, didn't. I think the jig is up!

if they knew what was good for them, they would listen to internet fans. We're the ones who stay loyal to a bad product and who offer constructive criticism.

You obviously surf a different Internet than I do

The Internet wrestling community, in general, is just a bunch of whiny know-it-alls who only know how to make three points

1. Things arent like they were in the late 90's
2. *Fill in name of undersized wrestler* isnt getting the push he deserves
3. *Fill in name of new debuting wrestler* will never amount to anything

I dont consider any of that constructive criticism

Now, this forum is a little different. For the most part, the people here make well-reasoned arguments, and tend to give WWE the benefit of the doubt. Thats why I still enjoy coming here even though my interest in WWE has waned in the past few years

Put it this way: If WWE had blindly listened to Internet fans, John Cena would still be a vanilla babyface with no gimmick, Eugene would have never debuted, Carmella would not be appearing on Raw every week (and lord knows I wanna see her as much as i can), Big Show and Bradshaw would still be miring in mediocrity, and there are several other instances of WWE ignoring the wishes of Internet fans and reaping benefits.

Oh, and to everybody who thinks the beginning of the Attitude era was the greatest time in wrestling, I implore you to go watch a tape of Raw from the late 90's. I think you'll be surprisingly disappointed. Not a single Eddie/Benoit/Angle/Jericho caliber wrestler on the roster. Awkward promos with no flow to them from even the best promo guys (like Austin, who was much better on the stick right before he left). Corny storylines that the Internet fans would laugh at today (most of them involving the Undertaker, like the crucifixion and Stephanie's kidnapping). Gimmicks that included a pimp, and a pornstar, The McMahons on screen 75% of the show. Is this really what everyone wants again?

My friend has Best of Raw volumes 1 & 2, and when i watched them, you know what i thought to myself? This sucks. Every match on the DVDs sucked. Most of the promos sucked. the stroylines were so incredibly corny, it makes me wish the bandwagon fans who jumped on when wrestling was a fad never come back.

Take a step back and look at it again, and I really think you'll be surprised

nice points above...

I feel these days "most" wrestling fans would check the net to some extent so it would be wise for them to take it into account.

Scoop of poo from me 2 U!

Mister D totally stole my thunder. I, too, would have loved to blast that "constructive criticism" comment.

Hahahaha...what a bunch of garbage! Vince needs our help like Stacy needs to diet. "Constructive criticism"...hahaha...sometimes you Forum guys are TOO much!

Back to the topic, I don't think WWE is going to waste their time by putting out false information to "mislead" the internet fans. Why would they need to? The internet community spreads enough baseless rumors to "swerve" themselves. (Speaking of that, shouldn't somebody tell WWE management that Kane left the company? The way they keep booking him on TV, you'd think that rumor was a complete fabrication of the truth! Somebody call Honky...)

Storyline swerves have been around longer than the internet. Phrases like "if they knew what was good for them" or "they're on to us" are indicative of why WWE makes a point NOT to listen to the internet most times - because the internet community considers themselves wiser than the people who run the industry. The harsh truth is that the internet community gives themselves WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much credit.

When the internet community realizes that they're only glorified spectators, and not "McMahons-in-waiting," perhaps Vince will give jack-squat about its opinions.

Late.

The whole point to the topic is not to give credit to internet fans as having knowledge as to what should or shouldn't be done. It was to point out that the WWE may be trying to throw us for a loop and show us we don't always know what is going to happen as fans oftne think on the internet. By creating rumors that so and so may be leaving or having the obvious not happen makes us realize that we don't know what WWE is going to do just because we read a rumor.

I understand what the point of the topic was. My comments were directed to the previous post that stated WWE would be wise to listen to the internet. That's what I disagreed with and I stick by that.

My view on whether WWE is attempting to swerve the internet community with "false info" is that the internet doesn't need help in spreading "false info"...its already out there in abundance.

However, I think the premise of the topic does try to credit the internet community in that you believe its conceivable that WWE would make a deliberate effort to swerve internet fans.

If you consider that WWE is a large, publically-traded company, I severely doubt that they would swerve net-smarts simply for the sake of a swerve. I think that such a deliberate effort by WWE would, in effect, indicate that they are threatened by the internet fans' "knowledge" (I use that word loosely in this context) and, furthermore, would *need* to swerve the internet to protect their programming.

I think, in some ways, they have acknowledged the internet leaks by being more secretive with their bookings, i.e. bookers not advising workers of who's being put over, prior to the day of the match.

I think its agreed that genuine info leaks mostly come from workers. If the WWE were to swerve the internet, they'd have to do one of two things:

#1 - Know a person (who has a contact outside on the internet) who can leak info to a webite admin, reporter, etc. Or...

#2 - Swerve the entire Company so that someone will leak the bad info to a website, i.e. WCW's fight backstage that was revealed to be a work.

I think the whole theory is too "Oliver Stone" for me to believe. I think the bottom line is that internet fans aren't as informed as they think they are. So what if the internet community thought Carmella would win? So what if most websites reported that Cena would loose to Booker because of his upcoming movie? I think that's speculation on the part of the websites, not false info from WWE.
