Blading

After watching Unforgiven again, i was quite annoyed with the really obvious blading by Shawn Michaels & Triple H in their matches against Kane & Randy Orton.

Where most wrestlers would make a cut the night prior to their match and have it burst open on impact, Shawn & Triple H seem to prefer the old-school way of keeping a blade in their wrist tape & cutting themselves mid-match after a chairshot ect.

To me this just looks totally fake, especially when you see them going for the blade (hbk when he fell out of the ring, HHH when he had the figure 4 on Orton. check it yourself if you don't believe me. I don't look for these things, they were just really obvious) + next thing the blood is gushing out of them.

Am sure others use this method too, but Shawn & Triple H are relying on blading in order to make their matches more dramatic + its becoming totally over-used. In this case, neither of the matches needed a blade-job + it ened up seeming completly pointless.

Surely I'm not the only one that feels this way!

I agree, a few years ago we hardly ever saw someone blade during a match, and when they did it made that match seem a little more special. However these days it's pritty much the norm in any Triple H match, and for me it takes away that special factor of the blade job.

The best blade ever was when Austin blacked out to Bret Harts Sharpshooter.

But that is besides the point. Blading is generally overused these days. You can see HHH is just following the footsteps of his idol Ric Flair by blading a lot. Flair was a big fan of the blade.

I can remember seeing Ric Flair vs Macho Man, at what I think was Wrestlemania 8. Flair bladed then, and the blood stained all the front of his hair, and I can remember thinking 'Wow. That's blood. See I knew wrestling was real' I think if I was that age today, I'd be more shocked by NOT seeing blood on a Wrestling PPV.

Shawn needs to lay off the blade for sure. And I hate when the camerman gets an up close shot of the wrestler when he is blading. Hmm... I wonder why HBK was scratching his forehead at the '03 Royal Rumble when Y2J clocked him with a chair. Then he gets up with a perfect slit across his forehead... It's definately overdone and is coming to the point where it just looks too fake.

Well not everyone is as tough as former stars like Mick Foley and Terry Funk, who would only bleed from genuine injuries. (Which were quite numerous throughout their respected careers.) They used to let other wrestlers bust them open, by sharp knuckle strikes under the eyebrow, were the skin is soft. Thanks to their classic bloody matches, others try to bleed to take the 'match story' to a higher level of intensity. Underfortuniately, they are not 'hardcore' enough, to take real wounds for their blood. That's just my two cents...

If I'm not mistaken, that wasnt a blade job. Austin hit the barricade face first and busted his head open. If it wasnt intentional, it definitely added to the match, especially the finish

Blading sux. Its way overdone. When Austin did it against Bret, it was cool, cause it hardly happened. Today it happens during interviews lol. Personally I hate it and I think they should stop. Ric Flair said that Foley used to rely on bumps to get over, well Flair relys on blading to get over as well, cause his matches are usually boring (maybe only a handfull are good, if u really think about it). Triple Hs matches are boring as well. Bret, Jake The Snake, Owen, The Rock, never used to blade, because they didnt need that to get over.

Jesus H. Christ...if this thread doesn't prove that wrestling websites are anything but negative, I don't know what will. Its one thing to debate that blading, in general, is used too often and thus reduces its dramatic effect. But to complain about blading because it looks too fake is freakin’ RIDICULOUS!!! You're watching pro wrestling, for God's sake. It’s ALL fake. The fact is that blading is obvious to those who are looking for it. Casual fans aren’t looking for that type of stuff…you are! Triple H doesn’t blade anymore than Dusty Rhodes or Ric Flair did…watch an old NWA tape and you’ll see what I mean. Ever see a Horsemen match? And for the record, Bret Hart, Jake Roberts, Owen Hart, and The Rock have ALL bladed in matches. But that's another case of "selective memory" by fans. If you want another reason to complain about Triple H, then far be it from me to try to stop you…but JV really should change the “Open Forum” to the “Hunter Haters.” I don’t especially like the guy, either, but saying that he blades too much is weak. The "Attitude" era brought an edgier product to TV: more violence (and blood), more controversy, and more T&A. That’s why we see more of it today than, say, the early 90s. Does anyone want to go back to that era? Not me. You wrestling “purists” or “smarks” can argue all you want about “Bret Hart this” or “Jake Roberts that,” I’ll take today’s product. Considering the ratings, I’d say the general public agrees.
