Kayfabe

With recent events happening, mainly surrounding Kurt Angle and Eddie, and the tightening up of "kayfabe" within the WWE, do you guys and gals now believe in any of the rumours long the lines of the Angle/Eddie fighting backstage being set up to "kayfabe" the internet fans.

OK, I know alot of the internet fans would claim to be "smarks" an have a reasonable idea of what happens behind the scenes, but I've always been of the opinion that there is a chance that some of this "backstage" gossip/news/rumours could be set up with internet "smarks" in mind..

Now we have Paul Heyman. Widely regarded as wrestling "mad genius" who has now joined the writing team of Smackdown. This is exactly the kind of stunt that he could come up with and execute. There seems to be alot of talk about Kurt Angle and his "politicking" to keep himself up on the top spot. Now from what I've seen of Angle, backstage politics is something that he wouldn't need to get involved in seeing as he is widely regarded as being one of the best.

Others, like 'Taker and HHH have always tried to protect their spots for various reasons, Taker getting old, HHH just being HHH, but I can't see any reason for Angle to do this...

Is this the start of something new ? A new style of "kayfabe" that will encompass not just the live fans but the internet too ??

Would it even be possible for them to "kayfabe" the internet fans ??

Yes, it would be possible to get over on the internet fans. When you consider that the majority of the internet fans are teenagers with nothing better to do than discuss wrestling.

I DVR'ed Smackdown and watched the last segment 3 times. I didn't see anything that looked suspicious nor did I see anything that made Angle look weak. So why he would be upset is a mystery to me.

As far as whether Angle politics or not; I think that politics just comes with the territory. WWE creative team has been *anything but* creative as of late. I don't think its a bad thing to take pride in your position, nor to protect your reputation in the business.

Triple H gets the most heat for using his pull backstage. While I don't condone talent using their pull when it hurts the Company, in Triple H's case, you could say that he's only giving back for all the crap he went through.

Remember he was punished for giving Hall & Nash a farewell hug at Madison Square Garden? Or how Austin allegedly refused to lose the strap to Triple H? I'm not much of a Triple H fan but the guy has worked hard and paid his dues.

When Triple H wins a big match or regains the Title, everyone is quick to assume, as with everything he does, that its was the result of being married to Stephanie McMahon. I know that Triple H and Stephanie's marriage seems inappropriate given the major conflict of interest. Objectively speaking, can you blame the guy? Who among us wouldn't love to marry a wealthy, attractive woman who's father is the most important man in the industry to which you've dedicated yourself?

Are his accomplishments really the result of being married into the McMahon family or is it that Triple H is unquestionably THE BIGGEST HEEL character in the past several years?

It's a fact that Triple H established himself *before* he even became involved with Stephanie. We're not talking about a guy who was a mid-card talent, married into the McMahon family, and then got a push he didn't deserve. On the contrary - Triple H overcame the odds, worked hard to evolve his character, and climbed to the top of the mountain on his own momentum.

Triple H undoubtedly has backstage clout but perhaps its not because of his marriage to Stephanie; it could just be that WWE is loyal to him because he continues to be so loyal to them.

Where's Austin? Where's Rock? Where's Goldberg? Where's Lesnar? Where's Hogan? Gone. Gone. Gone. Gone. And Gone.

Where's Triple H? Still at the top of the card every week and on every PPV.

First off, you're using the word "kayfabe" completely wrong there. So maybe you marks shouldn't even be using a term you don't know how to use, let alone discuss it.

You mean swerve man.

Kayfabe is when you keep in character, i.e when you're Undertaker, you act like you're dead 24/7 and generally zombie around when giving interviews, thats keeping kayfabe.

BUT... back to the point. This apparent 'shoot' mentality where you stage a shoot could really work, but it means you're gonna end up having to keep the fact its a work out of the ears of many workers, who'll spill to a newssite. That creates unrest within the company and damages morale, so its a double edged sword. While I agree that wrestling loses its spontaneous appeal as soon as you know about pushes and booking mentality, i doubt theyd work a backstage fight into an angle that easily. Its almost too obvious.
