Imagine you're strating a wrestling promotion. You can afford any 10 superstars the world over - from WWE, TNA, Japan, South America, anywhere.. and you also get two non-ring personalities and one booker. Who do you take? (This premise is stolen from pwtorch, but I thought it'd make an interesting post). Try not to merely list your favourite 10 wrestlers.. more, think of how these signings may benefit your 'organisation'.
Here's mine..
Fantasy Pick One: Kurt Angle. The man is a born winner, a brilliant wrestler, all round superb. His in ring ability is second to none, his mic work is top notch, he can be funny, serious, plays a heel as good as anyone in history.. Foley aint God - Kurt is. Just too good a wrestler to pass up. Plus with his experience, he could help our next prospect develop..
Fantasy Pick Two: Randy Orton. He's just one for the future, is our Randall. He's so young and just brilliant. As a heel he draws so much heat, and he's great on the microphone as an arrogant bastard. He's solid in the ring and he can get even better.. he'd be a major focus for a company building from the ground up - he would continue to grow with the fed.
Fantasy Pick Three: AJ Styles. The guy can fly high (As good as anyone), mat wrestle, he's competent on the microphone, could fit into a CW or heavyweight division.. Of course, there's always room for improvement on his character (Which is admittedly quite flat) so like Orton he could continue to develop and has a lot ahead of him.
Fantasy Pick Four: Chris Jericho. He's a jack of all trades like Kurt Angle (But even more so), he's great in the ring, entertaining on the microphone, can play a good heel, an even better face, can high fly, mat wrestle.. and he's experienced. Could teach the up and comers (Like Orton) a thing or two. Plus he can gel in and out of the ring with anyone, from Christian (A classic feud) to people like Kane.
Fantasy Pick Five: Eddie Guerrero. A bit like Jericho in the extent to his flexibility in the ring, as well as on the microphone. Can play an entertaining heel, and can get very over as a face. The guy is an all round genius. I'm a bit biased 'cos I'm a huge Guerrero fan.. but he'd be a dead cert.
Fantasy Pick Six: Raven. A guy who I think the WWE really dropped the ball with, he has always been something different. Versatile in the ring, a unique gimmick, absolutely brilliant on the microphone, and just something really different and entertaining as well as having experience and mat ability. Plus, I just love the DDT finisher. He could be a heavyweight, a CW, and even spearhead a 'hardcore division' if that's a direction the company wanted.
Fantasy Pick Seven: CM Punk. I don't know what it is about this guy but I just really find him entertaining. His matches are always really good, I think he's good on the mic (What little I've heard) and generally just an asset to the 3D Fed, as it'll be labelled from here on in. He could again switch divisions, and one of the best non-WWE guys about right now.
Fantasy Pick Eight: The Big Show. I reckon this will be a controversial pick, but I just can't get enough of the guy. As a face he's great, and as a heel he's great too. He's huge, always a genuine threat, powerful, and if it were ever said a fed needs at least one big guy, this is the biggest. Go Show.
Fantasy Pick Nine: Batista. I think with the right rub, he could become a Brock Lesnar-esque figure for the 3D fed. He's big, he's got a great look, has some great looking impactful moves. With a push, he could hold a World Title. Plus, he could go in a tag team, and like Orton and others, he could grow as the federation does.
Fantasy Pick Ten: Shelton Benjamin. Again, he's a youngster with infinite potential, he's good in the ring, what little mic work he does is ok (And would improve with practice and time), and like Batista, he has a good look. He's a good technician, all he'd need is a gimmick and a good finisher. He could also be utilized in tag divisions and (possibly) even in a CW division.
Other talents to be watched carefully: Renee Dupree, Charlie Haas, John Cena, Mysterio.
Non-ring personalities: Well, I've decided to cover the ol' WWE-esque T+A route first, so I've plumped for Miss Jackie. She's over as much as any Diva (Other than perhaps Trish, but she's a wrestler, and for now, there's no woman's division) right now.. and hot. So Jackie will do. And secondly, you've gotta steal Eric Bischoff from his GM post on Raw. He's a proven draw, has massive history in WCW and now WWE, is a great heel, he'd be a great 'management' figure.
Booker: Well, OVW master Cornette. I've seen an interview of his on the Wrestling Channel, and he spoke of logical booking. His OVW work reflects that. The easy choice.
So, the 3D fed is up and running.. can you create good competition?
