Iron Man Matches

Well, it's been awhile since I posted here....so might as well start right where I left off.

I'm going to Raw next week (pittsburgh) to see the Benoit/HHH Iron Man match. Now of course both of these guys are great wrestlers, and there have been quite a few Iron Man matches in the past.

1) Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania XII)

2) The Rock vs. Triple H (Backlash)

3) Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar (Smackdown)

I'm sure I've missed one or 2, but the main point is...what do you think of Iron Man matches? Are they boring, or entertaining?

They are dangerous this day in age. Fans are hard to keep entertained for an hour. You have to have alot of descisions unlike HBK and Hart. I suspect there will be run ins by Evolution,Regal and Eugene. They have to have minimum amounts of rest holds or the crowd will begin to chant boring. You have to keep a medium pace HHH/Rock showed that as well as Lesnar and Angle. No slow down. I think these two will be able to do that, lots of dramatic submission spots too.

I think they are better suited for a ppv than live tv.

I dont think the fans are conditioned for matches like this anymore.. same goes for the old school Survivor Series Matches.

And yeah they work better on PPV because we dont have commercial breaks every 15 minutes.

The HHH-Rock match was at Judgment Day in 2000 where Undertaker returned, not Backlash as I remember it.

I gotta agree that ironman matches work a heck of a lot better in the PPV domain. The commercial breaks turn it into a series of mini matches and we want one long, slow build and tension throughout. Ad breaks ruin that.

i tried watching the Brock-Angle match, and although it was good, i couldnt get into the same way as i could with HBK-Hart or Rock-HHH

Considering how weak Smackdown's PPVs have been, i would have saved the iron man match for that PPV, possibly Guerrero vs. Angle. that way, you kill more time, leaving less room for filler matches involving bob holly and billy gunn

The only thing I think that will stink live is that its over 1 hour of the show. (with entrances and what not) plus the fact that during each commercial break the wrestlers will most likely bore the crap out of the crowd with all the rest spots.

Its funny, I am reading Ric Flairs book right now and he mentions how often wrestlers would do 60 minute draws back in the day because promoters didnt want their top draw to lose to the NWA Champ, and vice versa. It almost was common practice to go 60 minutes before.

People just don't have the patience or enthusiasm for it anymore.

It's about time......now bring on his next fued....

No they do not. It takes a special kind of fan to last as long as the wrestlers can in the ring. I remember when HHH and Rock were going to do theirs JR was very very against it. It almost didn't happen. JR was worried that the WWE crowd wouldn't respond to the match. Luckily the wrestlers kept a decnt pace and kept the crowd into it. Plus the Undertaker's return helped alot too. By the way i was wondering if Bischoff was rewarding HHH for his actions why did he grant him an iron man match? Usually that has been a punishment because its supposed to be the hardest match to have.

It would be ok if they work it so the rest spots are when they go to comercial.
