The Rock's Movies

With The Rock now doing hollywood and his latest film going rather well...

Do you think the film is doing well mainly because of his namesake? or the films he appears in carry enough legs on their own?

Of course, many movies sell entirely on the actors involved so its no bad thing

I think he sold the movie.

If you watch most of the marketing material (trailers, posters, commercials), they focused almost entirely on the Rock.

Perhaps this is because the plot sucked, from what i heard. Perhaps the studio knew they didnt have much of a film on their hands, so they just focused on the Rock.

the Rock is a charismatic guy, and i'm sure his presence drew people to see it. Hell, i know people who hate wrestling but love the Rock, and went to see the movie just for him

Well it can only be good news for the Rock if his names alone sells movies.. All he needs now is a couple of consitant scripts and there'll be no stopping the guy!

He has 4 more movies to do and I am sure more in the works. As time goes on I am sure he will get better roles and movies offers.

Problem is that Rock has yet to have a movie, besides the Scorpion King, to make it's budget back in theaters. Rocky's gonna have to have a movie that can make it's money back PLUS some in order for his movie career to keep going.

Rundown bombed ($47 million/80 million)
Walking Tall is only doing okay ($43 million/$46 million)

And I'm not even counting the advertising budget or the fact that the studio only sees 55% of the box office gross. :?

I hope his career goes well though. Even though his movies aren't doing well, Rundown, Walking Tall and Scorpion King all kick ass.
When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

Wrestling is not that big of a career that people make it out to be. Superstars leave WWE to move on to much bigger careers and I can't blame them. Wrestling is like theatre plays.

You know how full time actors like Hugh Jackman and many others are doing movies full time, and then they go back to doing theatre for a little bit?

Well, wrestling is the Rock's theatre. That's why he only makes occasional appearrances in WWE to keep the wrestling fans happy.
