Characters and personalities.

I know it's been talked about millions of time before on many different topics, but I think I am starting to see this going in the right direction. I know only SD has aired since the "whole new WWE" has been put into place, but it already seems to be playing a part on SD anyway (will have to wait for Raw to see if there are any signs of changes there.)

For example, UT. Had his character as deadman, came back as a brawler/biker which was just an attitude, now it seems he is coming back with more of the deadman character.

Angle: GM Angle gives him the time and space he needs to work on a character. He's good on the mic (when not busy trying to remember too many details to throw in to his speech) and can be very funny. Let's hope he doesn't turn into a 'better than thou' type GM because that's more degrading and annoying than memorable. He's shown he can be funny as face or heel, as long as he doesn't bring back the singing.

Booker: Not really a character, more of just a preformer but the show needs some of that, not everyone can be over the top.

Bradshaw is the main reason I thought of this topic. He's been the noticeable one. Most of us have had comments on his character change and most have been good. This just proves that characters still work in the business. I know alot of it is based on his real life accomplishments, but that's the best way to develop a character based on what you are and what you know...look at Austin.

Then there are those who are borderline, like Dupree. His angle at the moment is more of a gimmick which he will hopefully drop soon. He can still use the french of it, but the constant flag waving and poodle have to go. I hope when they split that team up he didn't inherite the whole gimmick.

So that is the beginning of this topic. I'm sure more will follow after Raw when we can see if there are any more significant changes in characters. Also who would you like to see do what in terms of a character change/development. I just wanted to get this topic started, see what people think and if their prediction may come true in the coming weeks.

We've all mentioned WWE needs more characters, let's hope that's what they are working towards.

You have to like the dance that Dupree does. I laugh out loud everytime he does it lol.

I think Rene Dupree is an ass, but I think thats exactly what WWE wants.

I agree with the argument that wrestling personalities should be an extension of someone's real life persona, it works because wrestlers dont have to think about details, theyre just there, they work off the bat instantly because it all fits in with the way they would actually think.

The trouble is that wrestlers have to develop distinctive personalities before they can become stand-out stars, if you have an angle that works for you because you 'feel' it, then it works really well. Classic examples being people like Stone Cold, The Rock and Jake the Snake Roberts. Vince has always said that he really couldnt tell when he was speaking to Jake the wrestler or Jake the person, and thats testament to the fact he really did 'feel' his role (or he was insane, depending on how you look at it). You can immediately relate to someone if they can nail their character down to every last detail, people pick up on little inconsistencies, and if you arent the sort of person ur gimmick wants you to be its easier to spot those kind of discreprencies.
