After weeks of anxiety over his relentless travel schedule and general misery living the pro wrestler lifestyle, Brock Lesnar is throwing in the towel.
Lesnar announced at Smackdown yesterday in the pre-show meeting that he is quitting WWE after WrestleMania.
"God bless him," one of his colleagues tells the Torch. "He made his money. I'm sure he has enough 'f---you' money to last a long time. If he didn't enjoy it, I credit him for getting out now when he's still young. There aren't that many wrestlers who like the lifestyle, but most let their careers define them and would never quit if there was still money to be made or fame to have."
Lesnar was a phenemonal study, becoming one of the best all-around performers in the ring and behind the mic over the past 18 months since he first became a headliner. Lesnar, a University of Minnesota amateur wrestling standout, trained through the WWE system in Heartland Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling before being brought to the main roster.
He had been showing more and more signs of being unhappy in recent months. The travel became so stressful for him that he bought his own private plane to get to shows just a few weeks ago. He'll likely be selling that plane soon.
Lesar's relationship with Vince McMahon had become strained in recent weeks due to Lesnar's growing anxiety and problems with his schedule. Lesnar is considering trying out for the NFL as his next project in life. At only 26 years old, and given his talent level, it's difficult to imagine he won't some day return to the ring, perhaps full time after a few years off.
His colleagues are not sad to see him go. He had alienated himself from wrestlers with his demeanor lately and came across more and more in recent months as if his push had gone to his head. It may have been a manifestation of personal issues at home in Minnesota related to his young child and the mother of his child and also stress from dating Rena Mero (Sable) on the road.
The WWE locker room, particularly the Smackdown roster, seems to be almost unanimous in their reaction to Brock Lesnar's decision to leave the WWE after Wrestlemania.
Reaction has ranged from "Good riddance" to "He'll be back once he realizes how good he actually had it here". Nobody we've talked to has had anything positive to say about Brock Lesnar.
"He had a reputation of being a whiner," said one Smackdown wrestler who talked to us. "He was always bitching about the travel schedule....as if he had to travel more than we did. It was tough on all of us and we got tired of hearing him complain about it."
Another Smackdown performer jockingly told us, "At least now I can talk to you without fear of being killed by Brock Lesnar!" That comment was in reference to an infamous outburst by Lesnar in a pre-show meeting a couple of months ago when Lesnar lashed out at internet leaks and promised to kill anyone he caught on the internet.
I dont think most people could care less about Sable anyway :S
I hardly notice when shes not on TV. I would have let her go a while back now. She doesnt wrestle anymore, she sits there and looks pretty. She wasnt bad around late 97 early 98 when she was actually wrestling, but shes crap now.
As for Lesnar, huge loss to the company. I dont understand why he cant just take a break to recharge his batteries and then come back? It seems foolish to leave the company without first taking a break and considering his options. What do I know anyway :S
To be honest, after Brock broke Bob Holly's neck legit, he should have been canned IMO, regardless of push/card position. A broken neck can paralyse for life or kill.
Good riddance.

So you're saying that Owen Hart should have been fired as well for almost breaking Steve Austin's neck?
When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.
Luke 21:20-28
I thought that was as much Holly's fault as Brock's. He didnt tuck his head in enough when coming down, and Brock followed through with the powerbomb.
Accidents happen, I cant recall recently seeing a Lesnar powerbomb anyway. He stopped using his awesome triple powerbomb spot ages ago, and doesnt use the triple backbreaker either.
Ida's right. There was no way to protect himself there. Also, if what we heard about Holly is true, he probably tried to take some liberties with Brock early in the match, and Brock just reacted. Its doesnt make it right, but at least its an explanation
Also, I will almost guarantee that Brock Lesnar, if he is thinking about going to the NFL, will not make it. He certainly has all the physical attributes, but you have to have played the game your whole life to really understand the intricacies of the game and the defensive sets (I'm assuming he's gonna be playing defense, probably D-line, maybe linebacker). He's 26 or 27 years old, which already makes him "old" for an NFL player, and for him to come out and make it to the highest level of the game after not playing any football for at least 8 or 9 years (if he didnt play in high school, then even longer) would be nearly impossible.
Plus, with all the talent available, and extremely tough salary cap restrictions, will any team sacrifice a roster spot to put Brock on the team? I highly doubt it
I'm still not buying any of this. A 26 year old guy with no real football experience going to the NFL? Forget it. I don't care how big he is. He'll never make it, and I'm sure that, if this were real, by now he would have spoken to higher-ups in the NFL, and they would have told him he has NO CHANCE of succeeding as a pro football player. The stuff with Sable just confirms my belief that it's a bunch of nonsense. I think that this is WWE's revenge against the internet smarks. Vince is probably laughing his ass off right now. And I say good for him -- whether it's true or false, this whole thing is interesting.
