| Your rich enough to get a new promotion off the ground. How would you try to sell it to the common wrestling fan and the marks as well. A few things to consider..... 1. How will you get your product out there? Stay in one location? Travel throughout the US? UK? Canada? 2. TV deal. PPV style like TNA/NWA or cable like the WWE. What night would you show it on TV? Up against Raw or Smackdown or all alone. Would you try for the weekends or is that male target demographic suicide? 3. Announcers: Who do you have in mind? 4. You have the access to steal 6 wrestlers outside of StoneCold, HHH, Undertaker, The Rock, Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle. Who would you take to represent your franchise? Would you go for high profile guys or ones that may shine brighter under your vast skills? (we know JV would take Test first overall :p ) 5. Are you the head booker? 6. What would you call your promotion? Be creative my little KYNerds. ::miakal:: :p ![]() | |

| [b:post_uid0]1. How will you get your product out there? Stay in one location? Travel throughout the US? UK? Canada? [/b:post_uid0] I think you have to stay in one location until a wider audience is ready to accept it. If you have the talent for travel and selling tickets, then by all means. [b:post_uid0]2. TV deal. PPV style like TNA/NWA or cable like the WWE. What night would you show it on TV? Up against Raw or Smackdown or all alone. Would you try for the weekends or is that male target demographic suicide?[/b:post_uid0] It's hard to compete with Smackdown or RAW. WWE would probably stock up the program you were trying to compete with, thus making it nearly impossible to get anywhere. I would make it on a Tuesday until you can get to a higher level. Given what WWE is doing these days, I don't think it would be too hard to go up against them. Even if you couldn't beat them, you could probably steal a lot of their fans. [b:post_uid0]3. Announcers: Who do you have in mind?[/b:post_uid0] I wouldn't mind seeing some ex-wrestlers. Joey Styles would be good too. I'd love to see Flair and Joey Styles. [b:post_uid0]4. You have the access to steal 6 wrestlers outside of StoneCold, HHH, Undertaker, The Rock, Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle. Who would you take to represent your franchise? Would you go for high profile guys or ones that may shine brighter under your vast skills?[/b:post_uid0] Chris Jericho, RVD, Kane, Orton, Mysterio and Benoit. Kane might seem like a weird selection, but I think his character has enough fans that people could really take interest to him. If you put him on your show and built him up the sky could really be the limit for him. I think most WWE fans are dying to see Kane become that mythical monster once again, and to really kick some ass. If you were to have Kane on your show and give them that...then I think you'd steal a big chunk of their fan base. [b:post_uid0]5. Are you the head booker?[/b:post_uid0] Mick Foley would be my top selection (the idea which I gave to Drunksader, which he is now pretending is his own). Foley knows the business more so than anyone and he knows how to cut through the bullshit and the egos. I think other wrestlers could trust Foley a great deal, and feel like their character was being handled in a way that was important. If it wasn't Foley, I would say me. [b:post_uid0]6. What would you call your promotion?[/b:post_uid0] Miakal Wrestling Federation (joke). | ||||||||||||||

| [quote:post_uid0="skinartia"]First off, Simon, realistically if you were to start a promotion you can't expect to be on any TV air time right away. Nor can you be expected to have "superstars" in your promotion. Also, you can't be expected to be widely accepted as it takes time to have your company build up reputation & respect from other promotions. ::skinartia::[/quote:post_uid0] I think Simon means if you had a bunch of money and were starting a promotion. As for being widely accepted, I think if you did have some superstars, were booking correctly, and were throwing some good money at it in other areas that it wouldn't take too long for fans to buy into it. | ||||||||||||||

| 1. How will you get your product out there? Stay in one location? Travel throughout the US? UK? Canada? [b:post_uid0]I'd start fairly locally, because there's nothing here right now. I'm going to be starting marketing at Uni, but the Young Enterprise company I was in already got me some marketing knowledge, so getting known would be no problem.[/b:post_uid0] 2. TV deal. PPV style like TNA/NWA or cable like the WWE. What night would you show it on TV? Up against Raw or Smackdown or all alone. Would you try for the weekends or is that male target demographic suicide? [b:post_uid0]I'd try and get the slot before Raw and Smackdown comes on, even if it's on a different channel, because people would be more likely to watch that then move to the WWE product.[/b:post_uid0] 3. Announcers: Who do you have in mind? [b:post_uid0]I have public speaking experience, so me. Plus Paul Heyman, that sort of character.[/b:post_uid0] 4. You have the access to steal 6 wrestlers outside of StoneCold, HHH, Undertaker, The Rock, Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle. Who would you take to represent your franchise? Would you go for high profile guys or ones that may shine brighter under your vast skills? (we know JV would take Test first overall :p ) [b:post_uid0]Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, The Hurricane, Rey Mysterio, and Jerry Lynn. Well known stars, all talented.[/b:post_uid0] 5. Are you the head booker? [b:post_uid0]Oh yeah.[/b:post_uid0] 6. What would you call your promotion? [b:post_uid0]CWF: Complete Wrestling Federation.[/b:post_uid0] | ||||||||||||||

| [quote:post_uid0="skinartia"]I'll toss in a couple of my cents. First off, Simon, realistically if you were to start a promotion you can't expect to be on any TV air time right away. That's it from me...for now. ;) ::skinartia::[/quote:post_uid0] First off Skin. I am not being realistic at all. This is for fun purposes only. I would think that most of us would go bust in a year if we actually tried to start a huge promotion. I just wanted to have some fun with the ideas. Toodles  | |

| skinartia seems to know what she's talking about on this. But I just wanted to throw in a little something. Saying that WCW started out well because of Ted Turner's money is a slight exaggeration. When Turner bought the then-NWA from Crockett Promotions, they already had a long-time programming deal with TBS, which of course, Turner owned. And yes, Turner's ownership did allow the group to launch another show on his other network, TNT. So he did have that advantage over other wannabe promoters. However, his product was already well established by then. He had established stars, established titles, established territories. It would have been a lot different if it'd been a start-up promotion. Furthermore, the wrestling landscape is a lot different now than it was then. Television networks aren't exactly embracing wrestling with open arms anymore. Sure, there are local affiliates in various towns that air local wrestling programming. But regardless of how much money you have, you can't get a national TV deal if a network isn't willing to give it to you. That's why Fusient bowed out of the WCW sale when Time Warner decided not to offer them the TBS and TNT slots. They couldn't just take their money and buy a spot somewhere else, because it wasn't that simple. As others have indicated in this thread, if you're starting up a new wrestling promotion, you have to go old school and be territorial. Then when you've established your territory, you can expand to neighboring areas. You're not gonna get a national TV deal regardless of how much money you have, at least not right away. And you're not gonna start with a roster of superstars because ultimately, business is business. And if you're shelling out more in wages than you're making in gate receipts, there's no reason to run regardless of what your bank account is. That'd be like throwing money away. |

| If money weren't an object, I'd buy NWA-TNA, work my way into a sweetheart wrestling contract (I'd aim for USA, since they're probably hurting since WWE left ... well to a degree at least) and pitch them competition to WWE. I'd point at lower ratings overall being caused back a lack of competition and hammer out a deal for one show a week on Wednesday nights, perhaps with a Sunday night wrapup showing some dark matches, etc. For talent, if I could, I'd grab Orton, Batista, Cena, Jericho, and Rey to augment the current staff. I'd do a bit of housekeeping w/the current payrolls and run with it. Announcers - I'd buy Foley. I don't care how much it'd cost, I'd buy him. I'd also try to lure Heyman away from WWE w/the promise of a much bigger role in booking. For booking I'd rely on a commitee headed by Heyman, w/me being the triggerman. I'd also do a lot of the writing. But most of all booking matches would include discussions w/ALL wrestlers involved, so I can sit them down and show them the big picture and get them excited. Oh, and Miakal would be my ring announcer ala Lillian Garcia. He can wear the dress if he wants to. Simon you can be the timekeeper. And I'd hire Matt S. to do costumes, since he's got Style. | ||||||||||||||
