Monday Night Raw Revie July 1 2003

now before i go any further i must admit i fell asleep and didnt catch the final match
i am not an old man and didnt feel tired at 9 therefor i blame my induced sleep 99.9 percent on the poor quality of raw itself.
here are denny g's random thoughts

opening segment- boring. wow the odds are stacked against two faces i dont care about. what a new fresh angle!
all i am routing for is that hopefully test gets fired before i am subjected to his match

goldberg DIDnt this happen match happen last week?
looks like the wwe is giving Mr. Boring aonther week or 2 before he gets squashed NICE PLANNING WWE!

christain Vs. Booker? didnt this match already happen?
was anything accomplished here?

steiner/stacey vs. Jericho/test
wow Test beat up a girl. He is soooooooo EVIL!
i am gonna boo him from now on
Maybe this is the week vince gives him the pink slip (crosses fingers)

womans battle royal- what a joke. immagine a battle royal for the mens world title and zack gowen winning it in his first match
isnt the wwe trying to create some meaning for this title with good wrestlers?
pure crap.

-boy isnt Randy Orton great! i think i finally get it after JR told me for the 600'th time this week.
hopefully he'll beat someone with credablilty as aposed to a someone from ECW the WWE buried three years ago in tommy dreamer

i think i closed my eyes during the la resistance match
but it seems as if the wwe is gonna create its THIRD raw tag team in two good workers LSD and HUrricaine.

again didnt see the last match but i have a feeling RVD didnt win gonna catch the replay at midnight
but wow did the WWE ever suck tonight

what a shame after the most successfull raw ive seen in a while
looks like the wwe is back to its old ways...

The womens title comment was stupid. Gail is the only diva than can actually wrestle in the WWE so it is good to see her get it. Her matches will all be crap because none of the other WWE divas can do anything. Watch matches of hers on her website. You will see she has some good moves when she isn't having to worry about deflating some implants. The only WWE diva I can ever see having a good match with Gail is Lita.

spinoff:

i dont doubt her talent
she was very impressive in the ring forsure
i just think its silly for a wrestler to capsure a belt
(yet alone the most prestegious for a woman)
in her debut
in my opinion thats an insault to a division which the wwe is trying to push

I agree with Denny 100%. Raw last night was a pathetic attempt to capitalize on last week's awesome showing.

First, opening the show with the Highlight Reel was all good and fine, but, like Chris Jericho said, he should have had Kane as his guest. As nice as it is to see Stacy Keibler on TV, she is useful in that capacity regardless of the segment. So, why waste the start of the show on the incredibly boring and poorly executed Test/Steiner angle? Talk about killing crowd heat early. Plus, it's pretty obvious that they have no clue what to do with Jericho anymore, since adding him to this joke of a feud does nothing for him. Turn him face and give him a run at Haitch.

Great. No Stone Cold. Strike Two with 1 hour and 45 minutes left to go.

Goldberg squashes should have been happening two months ago when he debuted. Not now in the second segment of Raw. For those who watch Raw because Goldberg is on it likely turned off their TVs at the end of this short, predictable segment. Even people who don't like Goldberg probably turned their TV off anyways, because three reasons to not watch Raw within the first half hour is pathetic.

Christian vs. Booker was a good enough match, but I [b:post_uid0][u:post_uid0]hate[/u:post_uid0][/b:post_uid0] it when an authority figure (in this case, Eric Bischoff) comes out to change the outcome of matches. This wasn't a case of Christian screwing Booker T out of the title, as has been the whole story between the two up until this point, but rather was Eric Bischoff doing it. Will they capitalize on this next week? Doubtful.

Test/Jericho vs. Steiner/Stacy was the exact same thing we've seen in this awful storyline 100 times over. Aren't storylines supposed to elevate feuds instead of have them tread water?

The Women's Battle Royal was a novel concept, but I am with Denny in saying that putting the belt on Gail Kim in her first match is definitely not what to do. At least not in how the match was booked. Last night was the first time I've seen Gail in the ring and, while she did some good moves, she didn't do enough to add a "wow" factor to her. I expected for her to put on a show with Victoria when it got down to the two of them, but instead she did a hurricanrana, armdrag reversal, and a headscissors-like elimination. I would have much rather seen she and Victoria put on a great show, showcasing her abilities, and then have Victoria somehow pull off a victory, starting a feud between the two. Instead, she's about as credible a champion as David Arquette was. No doubt she'll prove me wrong, but as of now, that's how I feel. Side note: Jazz must have taken that kick hard. She was out cold.

Randy Orton vs. Tommy Dreamer. At this point of the show, I was glad I was watching the tape of it and could fast forward. I like Randy Orton, but this match was completely skippable.

La Resistance. Pressing Fast Forward again to get to high speed.

And the "main event". Having a World Championship match every week doesn't make it seem too prestigious, especially when the only reason why RVD was getting the shot (storyline-wise) is because Eric Bischoff was trying to make Kane jealous come out to the ring. Stupid. The match itself was pretty forgettable. Standard RVD offense. HHH is obviously trying to become Ric Flair now, as he is doing chop blocks, falling on his face, and doing figure four-like submission holds. Too bad he's nowhere near as good at it as Naitch. The fundamental problem with this match (aside from Eric Bischoff's on-the-fly match changes...again) relative to last week's Kane/HHH match is that you knew RVD didn't have a chance to win going into the match. The whole match served as a reason to get Kane out to ringside, and they weren't going to overshadow that by having a title change too.

Overall, a very disappointing episode of Raw following last week's solid show. For me, the most exciting part of the two hours was the debut of the Wrestlemania XIX Gamecube game commercial. Way to go WWE...your commercials are more exciting than your product.

I have to agree, Raw was a step backwards this week.....I personal think it had alot to do with Austin not been there. Say what you wish, The man can draw a crowd. Notice something else, HHH wasnt on the show untill the main event,Unless i missed something. Also, I think that was a pretty damn good HHH match, Better than his others. I would like to think someone would agree with that. RVD is great,But HHH done some moves he hasnt in awhile, Like that Death lock,DDT(Simple move, but HHH doesnt do it offen.)

denny, I totally agree about the women's belt, but I have my fingers crossed that they can save this still. I believe Jazz was not thrown over the top rope. I can see them stripping Gail Kim next week (although I thought they would do it after the match) and say she never won it officially since Jazz got injured. They'll say something like the match never officially ended and maybe restart it with Jazz and Kim in the ring, Jazz throws her out and it plants the seeds for a future fued.

However, that makes sense so I don't see it going down that way.

after catching the replay of the main event
i ahve to agree with the general consensus
NO hype into this match
totally agree it was overshadowed by the fact that we knew kane was gonna come out and RVD had no chance to win

i liked the match for what it was although trips sure can slow down rvd
but i didnt mind it trips tried added a nice slow methodical story telling technical psychological aspect to the match and RVD was impressive as always
match truely picked up when it was no dq no countout but unfortuneately didnt last long

I have no beef really with how kane looked interesting theyre making him face....
hopefully next week's raw is more memorable then that gamecube commercial

Aww man this was so so SO aweful, I usally find one redeaming quality in every Rw, even when Tirple H fu**ed a manquin, but this was inexcusable. Raw was good up to Lance Storm attampting to define boring, the it all went to Hell.

[b:post_uid9]Lance Storm vs. Goldberg[/b:post_uid9]
-Without eight billion and four jobbers in WWE like WCW, Goldberg is reduced to attacking and matching up against people he fought before.

-Rodney Mack sux with Teddy Long and is being wasted. What was the point in having him jump Goldber only to have him get his ass kicked and ruin the match?

-Storm's being wasted, nuff said.

[b:post_uid9]Women's Battle Royal[/b:post_uid9]
-This was insulting to all the WWE Divas that are forced to work on Heat.

-Her gimmick is such a blaitnet rip-off and she will never go anywhere with it.

-Why does she have to be Asian Canadian JR? Why can't she just be Canadian?

[b:post_uid9]Christian © vs. Booker T – Intercontinental Title[/b:post_uid9]
-This is a joke right WWE? Have a champion that's never really won a match on live tv and make a moccery out of a great tite? Screwing somone who can do it some good? If it's a joke, I am not laughing. In fact no one is.

Going to see T3, Rise of Machines and will finnish this discrase later.

-Lash

As ECS said the main event was very good but it had no story behind it so the crowd wasn't as hot as they should have been. I can't really blame them though, as I was comatose as well for about 20 minutes following the Maven vs. Rico match[img:post_uid0]http://www.knowyournews.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif[/img:post_uid0]

On another note, Rico has the absolute worst finisher in the history of professional wrestling with that fairy twirling kick he is doing. I know the bubba bomb and lionsault were dismissed as lame finishers but they both come off as gun shot wounds to the head compared to Rico's twirling kick o' death.
