| Hey, Just read the RAW spoilers and saw that Gail Kim won a WWE title on her debut. I was just wondering how many other people have done this. The only other one that comes to mind is Jerry Lynn winning the Light Heavyweight title on Heat before Backlash 2001. I remember at the time that WWF.com made reference to a couple of other stars that had done the same thing. Christian? Did he wrestle before winning the LHW Title at Judgment Day 1998? Can anyone else name any others? | ||||||||||||||

| [quote:post_uid0="Disco Raheem"]Didn't Hogan win the WCW title on his debut or somewhere around then?[/quote:post_uid0] Yes, Hogan beat Flair inside a steel cage for the WCW Title. Hence, that title has always been a complete meaningless piece of crap. But as for the Womens Title, who really cares? Is anyone ever concerned about what happens with that title? I know I couldn't care less about it. Very few people watch WWE womens wrestling for the wrestling. And if they do, they are probably drunk or confused. | ||||||||||||||

| Although not strictly a debut, because he had wrestled I think as Aguila and one other name, but Essa Rios had a mini-debut when he arrived with Lita by pinning Gillberg to win the LHW Title. | |||||||||||||||

| I'm in agreement that Gail Kim winning the Women's belt on Monday was a mistake. Sure, the Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight belt has changed hands on a debut, but are we saying that title means all that much? Titles are made important by the people who hold them, and the storylines behind the challengers who try to take them. Just because Essa Rios and Jerry Lynn won the belt right away doesn't mean that it made the title important. The LHW/CW belt changed hands so much between marginally over guys with no build up that even with deserving people (Rey Mysterio, Matt Hardy) and decent storylines behind the belt lately, the title still isn't viewed as anything other than second rate. With Gail Kim winning the Women's Championship, a title that Trish, Victoria, and Jazz have been working their butts off to make a competitive belt, I doubt that the few that care about that division will keep their interest unless Kim is nothing less than the greatest female wrestler ever. Just to get up on my soap box for a minute: the two fastest ways to make a title look worthless is to put it on the wrong person or to have someone win it who has no story going into it. Either one can kill the belt. Exhibit A: Triple H was awarded the World Championship about a year ago - deserving person but no storyline = World title still doesn't mean much. Exhibit B: David Arquette wins the WCW Championship after a lot of build-up and storyline - undeserving person with a lot of storyline behind it = WCW World Title sinks into oblivion. The worst is Exhibit C: Albert winning the Intercontinental title without earning it or having a storyline going in. No wonder they retired the belt for 6 months... A championship is supposed to be a distinction, not just an accessory to a wrestler's wardrobe. | |||||||||||||||
