Quality or Quantity?

I've been thinking, what is best when it comes to titles.

Is it better to have 1 long reign or 20 little ones?

Discuss.

Well if it was me, I would rather be a 20 time Champion then only a 1 time champ.

You would be a headliner a lot longer if you won the belt so many times right? And that is where the big bucks are.

Both have their merits, however for a top belt to be credible it needs a 7/8 month holder every year otherwise it becomes tarnished. Secondary belts can live with shorter riegns as long as every 3/4 years someone holds it for 8/9 months once to revive it (usually a heel).

I had a sig, once.

The problem with long title reigns these days are that there are so many damn PPVs.. So for one, you know titles aren't changing hands on tv (I mean the world titles) and then you also know that most of the main events on PPVs are going to be fairly predictable.

I mean, what kind of asshole is going to lose the title at Backlash or something right after his Mania win?

Your calling your hero an asshole, he lost it twice at Backlash in 2000 and 2002

That's ironic. I guess my point is with all the brand PPVs now, a lot of the main events have become more predictable.

I'd much rather many title reigns than one long one.
For example: I consider people like The Rock, Stone Cold, HHH, even Edge/Cena much greater and memoriable champions due to their many time accomplishments compared to the SOB JBL with his one victory (which was truely non deserving) that lasted basically a year. He will never be remembered in the long future cuz he did what he did, and that was it, no come backs, no more reigns, no more pissing me off! =0).

I'll go for one long reign, e.g JBL and Honky Tonk Man, who were dire performers, are cemented in the mind as World and IC Champions and defined a spell in wrestling due to the length of their eras. (ooer)

Mick Foley held the title three times (I think) but I don't really think of him as being a true "world champ". One time was on Raw (admittedly memorable), one time in an empty arena and the last when Stone Cold wouldn't put over Hunter so as part of a compromise. On all occassions he held the title for extremely short periods.

ZSo you see a true chmapion as somebody who has lost the belt on many occasions, and not the guy who defended it against all comers over a longer period?

I sure do. It's my opinion, and they are the ppl I think of when I'm asked the question: "who are the greatest champs ever in your opinion."
