ECW Thoughts {23/8/06}


Opening video as normal, Sabu v Big Show announced as a Summerslam rematch.

Opening Match:

Torrie Wilson v Kelly Kelly Extreme Bikini Contest.

Man how bored I am of this same old crap each week. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing ladies in skimpy outfits but WWE creative obviously can’t come up with anything better to do for an opening.
Torrie takes her robe off, parades a little and passes over to Kelly Kelly.
Obvious happens and Knox & Test make their way out. Sandman & Dreamer come through the crowd and we turn it into a six person intergender tag match.

Dreamer/Sandman/Torrie b Knox/Test/Kelly.

At first Knox & Test don’t want to enter and Kelly stands on the apron and is then pulled into the ring by Torrie.
Lights strangely go out and Torrie stink faces Kelly. Match isn’t incredible, you can’t wrestle chats directed at Knox. However, Sandman & Dreamer win for a change.
Dreamer pins Knox after a DDT.

Backstage segment with Heyman trying to talk Show out of the re-match with Sabu, Show says he beat Sabu at his own match and tonight will be no different, Show is confident of the win.

Commercial Break.

Return from Commercial Break with Matt Stryker. Don’t know why he is in ECW, he is seriously crap and doesn’t suit the ECW mould. Pretty much explains he is coming to ECW and bringing his brains.

Next match is the Extreme Rules match of the evening. Why aren’t all matches extreme matches like the old ECW.

Kevin Thorn comes out with his lady woman Ariel. And his opponent is Balls Mahoney.

Kevin Thorn b Balls Mahoney.

Balls gets the advantage early with punches & a straight kick to the face. They brawl on the outside for a little and get back in the ring and Thorn takes the advantage with his walking stick.
I always thought Thorn never got a good run as Mordecai and never showed his talent off.
Near fall and Balls take the advantage again. Hit’s a spine buster before grabbing a chair from ringside. Ariel bites Balls as he gets back in the ring which leads Thorn to kick the chair in Balls face. Thorn then sets Mahoney for that stunner variation using the ropes.

Advert advertising Raw for one week only on Sci Fi.

Commercial Break. Man you Americans have some shite ads on your channels.

Stream cuts out at this point so if there was any promos I missed them.

Stream comes back during the CM Punk v CW Anderson match.

CM Punk b CW Anderson

From the little I saw, Anderson did have a lot of the advantage. Punk is unquestionably the new shining light of ECW.
Punk wins with anaconda vice.

Cool Sabu promo vid for his match with Show. Sabu says show is going down.

Package for ECW house shows.

Another commercial break. Ad for the new Rock film, looks like every school american football film, poor school, wins something big blah blah.

ECW returns and for some crap reason, we have to sit through a trailer for The Marine. From the looks of it, Cena’s acting is as bad as his wrestling skills.

Another Heyman segment with Hardcore Holly. Holly may be very good in ECW but please bring some fresh meat in instead of old stars of Smackdown or Raw.
Heyman says Holly needs to make an impact.

Back in the arena, RVD comes out and if my booking brain is anything, Holly will come out during this match.
Danny Doring is his opponent.

RVD b Danny Doring.

Van Dam actually got a few boos which is odd. Good to see Doring on his own. Van Dam using his legs to get ahead in the match.
Van Dam misses a move and Doring gets on the offensive but only for a minute. Van Dam quickly back with the advantage. Monkey flip out of the corner followed by rolling thunder.
Van Dam finishes off with the five star frog splash.

And oh my god, what a surprise, Holly comes out with a chair and smacks RVD & Doring. Alabama Slam to RVD as Holly leaves to a small reaction.

Big Show v Sabu final match of the evening.

Another commercial break and the same Stargate SG1 video. These Geico ads are actually quite amusing.

Rene Dupree promo as we come back. Dupree claims to be the most extreme in ECW which Is what just about everyone says.

Main event time, not long left on the clock so I’m guessing this will be very short.

Referee looks a little like Ricky Steamboat, from a distance at least.

Big Show b Sabu by DQ

Sabu tries to get in quick but Show uses his head and Sabu is already down. Show chopping the hell out of Sabu. Show drops Sabu on the top rope.

Final break of the evening.

As we come back, Show still has the advantage and a table has been set up outside but it isn’t extreme rules so Sabu can’t use it. Knowing ECW, that table will be broken by the end of the night.
Show knocks Sabu down with a massive clothesline. Show has Sabu in a bear hug. Show gets blinded by Sabu and then spears the referee as Sabu moves.
Massive fall away slam by Show. As the ref is out, Sabu begins using a chair on Show. Triple jump moonsault followed by Arabian face buster. Sabu covers but ref is down. Micky Jay then comes out and makes a 2 count. Sabu grabs the ring bell and uses it on Show, I wonder if they can call a DQ with the bell in the ring??
Sabu knocks Show over the top rope with the bell and Show lands through the table. Show is out and bleeding on the outside.
Obviously they can call a DQ with the bell in the ring as Sabu’s music is now playing.
Shows head actually looks like a massive chunk has come out the back and is bleeding everywhere.

Show ends with a bloody Show.


Rating: 3 out of 5

Nothing special, pretty much feel as if we are seeing the same every week with nothing new except a few promos from various wrestlers.

If ECW is to survive, it needs some variation in its scheduling, don’t put Knox/Test/Dreamer/Sandman on as the opener every week, it is getting boring.
And someone please put the belt on Sabu because I can’t take much more of Show as champion.

Matches

Sandman Tommy Dreamer, and Torrie Wilson Vs Test, Mike Knox, and Kelly Kelly

Sandman really suprised me during this match. The move he pulled off the top rope was fucking amazing, atkeast for him. Him and Dreamer look ready for this ECW run. Sandman is really suprising me how fucking in shape, and ready he is. He hasnt been in this good of shape in a long ass time. Dreamer also is looking good. I'm liking Test these days he's improved a lot, Mike Knox sucks though, cant really stand him. Torrie Wilson is the hottest woman ever, and Kelly Kelly is okay. Good to see the originals get a win in. Hopefully they have them stay together for awhile. Then eventually break up, and create a great fucking feud. Maybe by the December PPV.

Kevin Thorn Vs Balls Mahoney.

Kevin Thorn looked pretty good in this match. Ariel looks amazing, I'd love to stick it in her. Balls Mahoney is always cool in my book, he has some talent in certain areas. He's a nutcase who can go extreme. Thats cool with me, I dont mind seeing him every few weeks. The match was pretty decent, Kevin Thorn's finisher looked pretty impressive. I like how his charactor is going. Hopefully Balls sticks around as well. Thorn picks up the win, pretty good match overall.

CW Anderson Vs CM Punk

You can really tell CW Anderson is trying to work out some kinks. Overall though he's a real talented guy. He' s a little out of shape though. He has some good technical moves, and can carry a match. If he gets in a little better shape, I think he can be in a few good feuds. I wouldnt mind seeing him in a good feud with someone who can last long in the ring. CM Punk is pretty cool, he's got a lot of talent, and if booked right can be a serious force in ECW. Definitly like his charisma, and persona. CM Punk picks up the win, no suprise. Building him up a bit.

RVD Vs Danny Doring

Not much of a match here obviously dont have enough time to have a decent one. Danny Doring is definitly a good solid wrestler though who I dont mind seeing in the ring. It's weird people like him, and CW Anderson actually interests me, while WWE midcarders bore me to hell. I cant explain it. RVD picks up the win obviously, below average match.

Sabu Vs Big Show

Watching this match I really question ECW. I get you need a big time wrestler to carry the company, but Big Show is not the guy to do it. He doesnt fit in ECW at all. It's hard to watch him, and the matches make little to no sense. I'd much rather be watching RVD Vs Sabu, or bring in a few other top level talents who aren't WWE related. But with that said I do get that they have to build ratings, and get viewers before they can really test their limits. Match wasnt good at all, wasnt into it. End of match was pretty stupid. Was kind of cool seeing Big Show get his head bashed in though.

Other Thoughts:

Positive:

- Sandman & Tommy Dreamer in great shape.

- RVD back in action hopefully wont fuck up this time.

- CW Anderson having a match. Always liked this guy.

- Torrie Wilson's sexy ass. Oh man.

- Ariel is hot as hell, and I want to slip it in her.

Negatives:

- Shannon Moore? WTF Fuck off you suck

- Hardcore Holly. No fucking way should he be in ECW. He's way too WWE related.

- Matt Stryker. Another WWE piece of work. The WWE already made him way too WWE oriented. You can't randomly put him in ECW all of a sudden. Thats stupid.

Final Thoughts:

- ECW must get a two hour show, and a solid line up. I'm willing to wait on this though, hopefully it happens.

- Less WWE wrestlers, more OVW, independent wrestlers.

- More hot bitches

Thanks guys. Sounds like it was an ok show. I really like some of the ideas and people they are throwing around ECW of late..

The only thing I'll say since I didn't actually see the show is that they do indeed need another hour because in this day and age it's hard to get a lot done in about 45 minutes, and also they could use a couple more athletic indy talents..

I wouldn't mind seeing some crazy people like Matt Sydal or Sonjay Dutt showing up, I think ECW is lacking in that aerial offense area with the mid card..
