Triple H won the main event at WM2000 and it created one hell of a shit storm. He was a major heel and at the time it was almost unheard of that the 'bad guy' would walk out of Wrestlemania victorious in the main event. How could WWE do this? How could they send the fans home pissed off?
These are the questions people were asking..
Do you ever think that maybe some fans or possibly even the majority these days are big heel supporters? It's time for WWE to blur the line a tad between heel and face. A face shouldn't always be untouchable and invinceable and a heel shouldn't always be a spineless coward.
That's a topic for another day.
I understand the reasons for most main event outcomes at the big dance.. Heels are evil, faces are supposed to be our heroes and at the grandest stage of them all, Good should conquer evil and ultimately prevail.
That was fine in the 80's, now it's just plain boring. Last year it was a change with Cena and HHH being in the main event, we really weren't 100% sure who would come out on top, but for the most part Wrestlemania main events are just too damn predictable.
Most years I'll look forward to the undercard more then the actual match I'm supposed to be crazy about. That's pretty sad considering Wrestlemania is supposed to be the showcase of the elite.
We've had great moments like Benoit and Eddie celebrating at the end of WMXX, the Austin/Rock match at WMX-7 was highly entertaining with an unforseen alliance emerging, but WWE should mix it up a bit.
It's not the end of the world if a heel walks out of Mania as champion. Keep us guessing. If we want to know what's going to happen before it does, we'll go back to watching baseball.
