The opinion on JBL has always been fairly split around these parts, which should make for an interesting thread. I’ll start with my current take on JBL – the colour commentator: I don’t like him at all, in fact, it borders on hate. Why? I find him incredibly repetitive. He seems to pick one point to focus on in each segment/match and then beat it too death. An example would be that “Matt Hardy should be a Main Eventer but threw it away for some girl”…. I find him very inconsistent. I realize it can’t be easy to find consistency when you’re job is to back the heel at all costs, but I find him to be particularly bad at this. Example: He’s an American and loves American things but likes the idea of a Monarch (Booker). Why not love Booker and everything his kingship has brought him (Lord knows I do) but disagree with the idea of a Monarch. It feels like he’s doing a promo for himself instead of calling the show. He’s constantly talking about how great he is instead of focusing on the show. It’s a fine strategy to use as a heel wrestler but one that I find really hurts his commentary. Concentrate on the stories and action in the ring and stop putting the focus on you. His job is to put over the active competitors (mostly the heels), not himself. I don’t find him funny at all, in fact he’s mildly offensive. This is my last point because it’s an opinion I’ve always held on the JBL character in general. You either like it or don’t, just the same as when he was an active competitor. I am in the “don’t” pile. I’m certainly not saying that he can’t improve and become a good commentator but to this point I find myself missing Taz on a consistent basis. I guess given more time he could learn to come out of that “JBL” character a bit and become more of a commentator and less of a wrestling character but to this point I’m not a fan of JBL on commentary.

He could be alright just as long as he doesn't hammer the same point throughout the match and just call the match. A random comment once in a while is tolerable. Plus, the self-gloating is ridiculous. We know who you are, you don't need to keep telling us your great achievements. Hopefully it is just him getting somewhat familiar with being on commentary and he will improve. Plus with Michael Cole, i absolutely hate that guy i would just turn the volume all the way down if i were to ever watch SD!.

At GAB he must have told us "The Undertaker is in the twilight of his career" and how many times did he scream "All Hail King Booker!" into the mic. My lord. I wanted to give this guy the benefit of the doubt because he was new for a while, but he honestly makes me want to watch the show with no volume or not at all.
