Ripped and/or good looking is the look of a champion. That or they work around it with a great character or story. Eg. Austin
The whole cruiserweight thing is gone now. Punk is wrestling with the Undertaker, Cody Rhodes is wrestling with HHH. The fact you call him a large cruiserweight is a good thing. It means hes athletic to rock the house with Rey, or Big enough to not look rediculous with Batista.
Times have changed. Morrison is a good pick to move forward. He is so much like Shawn Michels its scary. He just isnt as good as Shawn was.

Not really, Punk is a heel and has to outsmart his opponents which makes up for his lack of size. Morrison is a face and someone his size standing toe to toe with Batista or Cena would look like a squash. Austin was a lot bigger built than Morrison.
Morrison is nothing like young Shawn Michaels because Michaels had natural charisma and wrestled like a traditional cheating heel rather than a member of Special K.

I see Morrison as a future WWE Champion and love him getting this push. He is usually great on the mic (I say "usually" because I thought that little singing thing he did with Theodore Long was terrible), he has tons of charisma, and he is pretty good in the ring. If WWE has him lose to The Miz at Bragging Rights, that will be a huge travesty and a terrible decision.

I'm not sure how good they are, but any promos with the Miz or when he's being the cool face and not serious or.. randomly laughing.. or randomly singing... he can be decent enough.
