WWE on Blu-Ray / DVD extras / WCW DVDs

This is a "triple thread" post scheduled for 3 replies, with a 28 day time limit:

1) As all WWE PPVs are filmed in HD (correct me if I'm wrong), does anyone have any thoughts on why only the "Big 4" (Rumble,Mania,'Slam & Series) are currently being made available on Blu-Ray? I think they are missing a trick here.

2) Why are the DVD extras so poor compared to what they used to be? e.g. Extreme Rules 2009 DVD just has a Chris Jericho interview. There used to be way more (and better quality) extras than this, e.g. additional matches. Are there Easter Eggs that I'm missing or what?

3) Will any of the WCW PPVs will ever be available as part of the Tagged Classics DVD series? Wishful thinking possibly, i dunno. Not that I was ever a WCW fan per se, I just find them interesting historically as they have a mix of old WWF stars and future WWE stars, so I would definitely buy some of them if available.

1) The WWE is just taking their time. They did the same thing with DVD's. It wasn't until Backlash 2001 that every PPV was put on PPV despite Wrestlemania 15 being the first DVD.

2) The lack of Sunday Night Heat takes away a lot of options. But mainly due to cost cutting procedures and so that the DVD can be released sooner.

3) For the foreseeable future, it's doubtful.

For 2, I really wish WWE would just tape the dark matches. Either throw them on the pre show or on the DVD (or both) as perks. It couldn't hurt and may make others more likely to tune in or buy the show. Also all the after the bell interviews WWE does should be included since it gets the reactions of the wrestlers and is minor, but fun.

I'm pretty sure they do tape them. I know they have everything rolling before the show actually starts. They just choose not to add commentary and put it on DVD.

They did it for WM's 23 and 25 (Haven't seen 24's DVD, wouldn't know), so why not for all the PPVs?

If I recall correctly, they record pretty much every match they do, right?

I don't think it'd be too much work to have some studio commentary added.

I know at one time, they literally taped everything even if they didn't have any plans on showing it. That's how they had footage of Edge vs Jeff Jarrett from Toronto in 1999. While I'm not sure if they still record house shows, I know they still record the dark match before a PPV. If nothing else, they could do what ROH does and just throw the matches on DVD without any commentary.

I'm guessing they weighed the price of PPV's with loaded extras against PPV's with bare bones. There's not much sense in adding a lot of extras and spending that money when DVD sales may not be as high as they were a couple years ago. Besides, the real money for DVD's are on the Superstar sets.

Lesser PPVs likely wouldn't sell enough on Blu Ray as the market isn't very big.

DVD extras require a lot more work and royalties to be paid off yet the DVDs would still cost the same. In turn, the WWE would make less profit. The more hardcore audience who purchases DVDs likely will purchase them regardless of extras.

WCW PPVs aren't in big enough demand. The most you'll ever see is Best Of compilations. If you want to see WCW PPVs your only option is waiting on WWE's On Demand service to release them in good quality, or downloading old VHS rips. To my knowledge, every WCW PPV is available online.

I read that UFC DVD's sell a whole lot better since they started making thme two disc, I'm sure the same would apply to WWE.

WCW videos, in the UK, were distributed by Warner video. So I can't see them doing UK Tagged Classics of them considering all the others are video transfers and Silver Vision never did WCW ones. I don't know if it's the same overseas.
