I have some classic WWE dvds, and have watched many pushes. We all have seen superstars get the big push. However I don't think Batista was main event ready in 2005. His push came from on where. He did not have any major feuds with anyone. He did not have much appeal to the fans at the time.
In my opinion the WWE got really lucky that the fans jumped to the Batista fan club. The only reason why was because he feuded with Triple H and Ric Flair. All of a sudden Batista has some appeal to the fans and it grew.
What do you think of Batista's main event push in 2005?
I'd say it is one of the best angles of this modern era
The build up to their match at mania was genius, having Dave decide whether to go to Smackdown to take on JBL or stay on RAW to face Hunter one on one
The contract signing for the match was the best segment leading into Mania hands down with Bats giving Triple H the thumbs down treatment that was given to Orton just months prior right before he powerbombed the game through the table and officially leaving Evolution.

Steventon, he didn't really have any build until the weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble. Before that he was just continuing his role as the enforcer for Evolution.

They hinted at a face turn during the HHH/Orton fued with shit like Orton confronting Batista. The whole main event of the NYR main event was build around the building of the face turn.

I thought you mean his main event push. I agree that they planted the seeds for a face turn sooner than that.

Before 2005 I was one of the only few, from what I remember, that thought Batista would become a world champion. I also always thought he was supposed to be the next big star and not Cena. Primarily because when Cena was a comedy rapper, Batista was being paired with Ric Flair & Triple H. When Cena had a small role in the 2003 Royal Rumble, Batista was billed as one of four who'd win it, even if it was never going to happen.
The Batista push in 2004-2005 is also the same reason I think John Morrison will be winning the 2010 Royal Rumble and a world title at WrestleMania 26. Batista wasn't doing much at this stage in 2004, yet he went on to headline WWE's biggest annual show.
Anyway, I thought the push was great. The thought of Batista headlining WrestleMania up until the beginning of January would've perplexed a lot of people. WWE managed to build him up in a matter of months and they made him into a huge star. They couldn't have done a better job from Jauary to April. And I do believe that Mania 21 was a massive success. More impressive when you take into consideration that there wasn't a big celebrity involved and Cena's match was against somebody who people didn't think desered his spot.

lmao.
The fans started cheering for Batista well before he actually turned and began feuding. WWE 'hinted' at a turn when Triple H weasled his way out of a title match with Benoit by having Batista 'beat him down'. Even though it wasn't real, the fans went crazy for that shit, pretty much wanting Batista to murder Triple H from then on.
Hell, if we want to go back even further than that, Batista was cheered at SummerSlam '04 in an IC Title match when wrestling two faces, one of whom was Edge in his hometown. He also got the second most votes to face Jericho for the IC Title at Taboo Tuesday '04, falling only behind Shelton Benjamin who WWE pushed as the guy to pick.
Ridiculous statement, ridiculous thread.

....? I don't understand what you are trying to establish. You contradict yourself.
Batista did have appeal to the fans because those are the ones who turned him. It is one of the rare occasions where the fans dictated who they wanted pushed.

This is probably one of the most idiotic posts i have read, no offense
Batista was SUPER OVER. he was getting cheered as a heel. His angle during NYR was awesome and the whole Wrestlemania angle was brilliant. I loved the moment where he did that thumbs down to Triple H and boom right through the table. Classic
