The Ziggler/Maria segment on Smackdown brought this to mind again for me. It has been well documented that WWE is now PG Rated as they attempt to make the product more suitable for children, yet it seems to me that there are many inconsistencies regarding what is appropriate for a PG Rated show. This was talked about during the beginnings of the Orton/Triple H feud, as while no blood can be shown on TV, Triple H was breaking into Orton's home and hitting him with a sledgehammer, while Orton was punting a 60 year old man in the skull and attacking a woman.
On Smackdown this Friday WWE strongly suggested that Ziggler and Maria were having sex backstage. Does it seems weird at all to you that a sledgehammer is fine, but blood isn't, and that sex between superstars is fine, but a bikini contest isn't? lol
It seems like WWE have literally just asked what they NEED to do to get a PG rating, been told that they can't have blood or near-naked women, and have basically taken that out and kept the rest as it was. Seems dumb to me.

Yes, you've come to see the hypocrisy of TV/Movie ratings in the US. Just like in the eyes of the MPAA, showing sex in detail is worse than showing someone shooting a building full of people, as long as there's no blood.
Firstly, most people probably arent bothered by the rating and are just enjoying the show. Secondly, the ratings are clearly defined, i suspect this is stuff that isnt outlined as breaking the PG rating while blood and half naked women do.

Sexual inuendos are constantly in pg prgramming here the states at least and even in big name kid movies for example like shrek there were quite a few.
So that part has me confused as I always figured it was the norm

In addition, you have Jericho beating the crap out of an OAP (Flair) on TV too. Didn't he bleed too? Not sure if I can remember, I actually fast forwarded through the segment. But yeah it's weird, from a female prospective though, I really could care less about Bikini contests, I see your point though. The Sledgehammer is probably fine because it's minimal violence, it's a good guy vs a bad guy, and kids dig into that, it's still a family show, and I can't see any parents turning their heads in disgust at that. At the end of the day, they put the things they're allowed to on the shows; if that means they can hint at Maria and Ziggler going at it, fine, but if that means they can't have wrestlers bleed, fine.

Probably, but the stuff they're showing obviously isn't breaking the ratings guidelines or whatever you like to call it. They're using what they can get away with. Personally, i've no problem with the PG rating, it's not helping or hurting the product, and some of the stuff we're getting is more tasteful in comparison to the Atittude era.

Yeah I agree that what we see is generally more tasteful. You don't even need to go back and compare it to the Attitude Era, you just need to compare it to TNA, who are basically trying to recreate the Attitude Era. A lot of the stuff we saw back in the late 90s, I wouldn't want to see again.

Indeed.
I'll always be grateful that we no longer have incestual siblings and necrophiles.
The fact is, the PG rating is what made the then WWF phenomenal in the 80's and early 90's, so you can't argue with the results, especially considering the PG rating put WWF on the map.

Yeah I think its more that I grew up watching Attitude Era wrestling (or at least, 2000 onwards wrestling) so I am used to things like blood being a part of it. I have no problem with WWE being PG really, but I think often they don't cater to the PG rating as well as they should, a good example being that they continue to use matches like HIAC even though those matches rely on things like blood and brutality.
They were going to do a Katie/Paul incest angle recently though... so glad they realized it would be fucking retarded lol.

To be fair, they could have just been "making out" in the closet. Either way Morrison still cracked a gay joke which is hardly for kids.
lol I don't think kids would even get the gay joke. And considering Ziggler was kinda getting dressed as he came outta there, I think sex was heavily implied.
Also wasn't Cena giving Mickie her thong back in the PG era?
