Since the draft, people have been very excited about the main event scene on Smackdown, mainly due to the fact that pretty much all the big stars are on RAW. John Cena, Batista and Triple H, the three most pushed and protected guys in the company (although protected to varying degrees) are all over on the "A Show", as is WWE legend Shawn Michaels. On Smackdown, the only real established main event face is The Undertaker, and he's gonna be out for a while apparently.
The door clearly seems open for somebody to get a big push and perhaps finally establish themselves as a permanent main eventer. The last time someone got a main event push than stuck (excluding Chris Jericho as he was a main eventer prior to his departure) was Edge in 2006. We've waited a long time for a new star, and it looks like the time is now.
The question I am asking is this: With all the talented young stars on Smackdown, who should be the man to get the nod and become a permanent fixture in the main event scene? Recent weeks have seen John Morrison become a main focus on the brand after seemingly becoming a face, while CM Punk is obviously Mr MITB and Jeff Hardy defeated Chris Jericho last night to continue his momentum. To me it seems obvious that one of these three will be the guy to get the nod, so who do you think it will be, and who do you want it to be?
The poll asks the question of who WILL get the push, but you can state in your post that somebody else should if you so wish.

Punk and Hardy are former World champions and you wouldnt count them as Main Eventers on a show with only the one babyface main eventer?
Read my post and you will see that I am talking about establishing a true main event who will remain as such. Hardy and Punk both dropped right out of the picture as soon as they lost the belts. Right now they are not true main eventers because they have not remained in the main event picture for any real amount of time.
Thought that was kinda obvious........

I like how all three are cruiserweights. Outside of Edge and Taker the SD main event is all smaller guys.
Punk is the best out of all three by a long way. All have their obvious flaws, all have their redeeming features, but Punk has the most personality and superior mic ability on top of being the best in the ring. They seem pretty intent on making him a big part of the company's future, despite how awfully booked he is at times. Hardy, is really all over the place, he can be main eventing one day but with his background there is such a huge question mark over him and how reliable is. I know if I was in charge I would always have one eye looking over him. As for Morrison, they seem to be pushing him but I think it's pretty obvious they favoured the Miz over him, so I'll be surprised if Morrison gets a singles title shot this year.
I voted Punk too. People said he only won the MITB last year due to Jeff fucking up, which is hard to argue with, but the fact that they gave him that honour again this year shows that they have high hopes for him. Even if he ends up cashing in and losing, surely it will all culminate in his big moment. I know he was a World Champion before, but winning it the second time would feel so much bigger, especially if it happened at a big PPV. His booking is terrible at times but that's the same for pretty much everybody. I think they mean well with Punk but make terrible mistakes, and it definitely seems they have more faith in him than the other two, probably for good reason.
Hardy is the most over and will always be hovering around the main event scene from time to time, but Steve already mentioned the problems with him. He isn't really reliable.
Morrison's push is only in its early stages and we will have to see how that develops, but I see it as more of a long term thing, while Punk is holding a briefcase which could well mean he will be World Champion within the next few months.

I picked Punk because of his current position on SD. It just seems like if he's ever going to get a main event push, it's going to be now. The environment is just right.
As Steve said, everyone on the poll are cruiserweights. As an honorable mention, I'll say MVP, who is technically a heavyweight, could be main eventing a PPV some time this year.

I wish they would have gone with Morrison v Jericho. They teased us all for one week. Granted, I think Morrison/Benjamin can and will put on some outstanding matches. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Definitely Morrison for me. I doubt that CM Punk will get the push considering that he had have had a world title run and fail.
However....
The Next BIG thing is Jack Swagger no doubt. they're gonna trade him and christian mid year to the major brands and Jack Swagger is gonna get one heck of a push. He resembles Brock Lesnar so much.
I picked John Morrison, he reminds me of Shawn Michaels in alot of ways. Morrison has a great amount of talent and charism, he's proved himself in tag team action, and now getting a push as a single competitor.
It seems that we have know John Morrison for a very long time, from the early day of Tough Enough where we saw his green talent. He's had enough tag team matches with Mercury and Miz and faced alot of great talent, so this could be the moment that John makes a name for himself, just like when Michaels put Jannetty through the Barber Shop window, and began his long road to becoming a true legend
Morrison is not going to be a permanent Main Eventer for Another 2 years at least.
I would Have to Say Jeff. Although he is very unreliable that hasn't stopped the WWE from pushing him to the sky in the last couple of months. Punk would be a much better option but mainly due to the fact that Jeff is probably the most over face on the SD roster right now i can see him getting the next real big push with Punk following sometime later this year.
