Re: If HHH surpassed Flair's 16 World Title Reigns...
It's a little annoying but really, Flair won the title in like 3-4 different companies (well, at least different eras of NWA) so his wins I think mean more. To hold the NWA, AWA, WCW, and WWE titles mean more than just winning the WWE title over and over.

Re: If HHH surpassed Flair's 16 World Title Reigns...
The only reason why HHH is winning champ is because
1. no one is capable of being in the main event lately
2. those that are main event capable are either injured or quits.
So i doubt that HHH will ever surpass Flair, since next year we have many main event capables, like Jericho, Orton, Cena, Koslov(?), Umaga (?), Jeff, Matt, Christian, Edge, and RVD (yeah!) . HHH is also old, he would probably wants some time off.
Re: If HHH surpassed Flair's 16 World Title Reigns...
I'll kill your whole theory with one sentence. Did Jeff Hardy not spend most of 2008 and the beginning bit of 2009 main eventing both Raw and Smackdown? ( Cooked like a penguin... Yes, Im insane like that)
After spending almost a year in the main event, suddenly Jeff Hardy isnt capable of being a main eventer. Hell WWE could have gone with Kozlov, MVP, Bigshow, Matt Hardy, John Morrison, hell they could have even given the belt to THE Brian Kendrick. I know the argument is going to be that they are not credible, but Edge won his first world title in a 13 second match.. He has gone on to win 7 more, in relatively the same fashion, but he is still champion.

Flair was a World Champion in a company that never made any real money..a company that was actually losing money for so many years before the Hulkster went there. Ric Flair got lucky that he never signed for the WWF in the mid 80's like Dusty Rhodes or Harley Race did, otherwise he would have been just another midcarder. Its so funny to me that because he was a big fish in a small pond for so many years, he is now considered by many the best ever. Also, I know that alot of Flairs reigns were long, but there were alot of reigns that were very short as well. I cant believe I'm saying this ('cause I hate HHH), but I hope he breaks his record To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Do you have a reason not to give The Half Boy your vote for the Hall of Fame?
Re: If HHH surpassed Flair's 16 World Title Reigns...
I'd like to think that respect would keep Triple H from surpassing Flair's record, but I wouldn't be betting on that. And in no way would it mean as much. While its not to say that every Flair title reign was big and meaningful, many of them were. From what I've read, there were huge politics involved in getting the NWA World title back in the day. Even the nature of championship reigns have changed - look how much the belts move around today, compared to the 70s and 80s.
And also, being Champion in WWE means nothing compared to back then now there are multiple World Titles in the same company.
Well that I don't agree with. WWE recognized two belts, the World and WWE. Back before the split, during the MNW, there were still three recognized titles by WWE and WCW, including their belts and the NWA belt. It was probably easier to win it back then then it is now...if not the same.

Three belts in one company is different to three belts in three companies. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Bigpapa42, make no mistake about it there's still politics about who gets the strap in the WWE today, especially when it comes to Trips...
Oh, I don't doubt it. From the way I understand it, guys make more money when they have the belt, so that alone would make everyone want it. Which is pretty much how it would've worked back in the territorial days.
Are the backstage politics of the WWE right now worse than the multi-promotional politics of the NWA territories? I honestly have no idea. I believe there may have been some short spans in the JCP/early-WCW days where Flair did some booking, but he never had the kind of backstage connection that Triple H has enjoyed for much his career. Marrying into the McMahon's has gime the kind of leverage that Flair never came close to having.
