Shelton Benjamin has now been US Champ for quite a while, but we are yet to see him, or the title, being booked to look like anything important on Smackdown. When Shelton originally moved to ECW and then onto Smackdown, I thought he was going to get a big push, and when he defeated Matt Hardy to become US Champion, I thought big things lay ahead for the undoubtedly talented Benjamin. However, I can't remember him defending the title on PPV, and worse, he has been made to look like the definition of a ''jobber holding gold'', as he seems to lose more often than not on Smackdown, although he did look good against Taker recently.
To me, for all the claims that he has what it takes to main event, I just don't see him ever rising above midcard, and I don't think he deserves to. He is a good wrestler but definitely overrated, especially when I see people saying he is different league to CENA, who has put on a lot of great matches. Shelton hasn't really proved much, but he should definitely be looking a bigger deal than he is now. I think the main reason he should never main event is his obvious lack of personality though.
What do you think the future holds for Shelton? Personally I think the guy just doesn't work as a heel due to the aforementioned lack of charisma. He should turn face again seeing as the fans cheer his flashy athletic moves anyway, and he wouldn't have to cut heel promos, which he is really bad at.
Do you think Shelton will ever become more than just a glorified jobber in WWE? How would you book him from now on?

i love shelton and have for some time but like most of my favorites(besides orton lately) they dont get booked for shit. i was a huge WWE christian fan but look where he got....nowhere
He just needs to improve his Mic Skills & gain a personality really. He has the athletic ability to get over but with a lack of mic skills you wont make it far unless you get over with at least 90% of the fans I.e. Hardyz & Benoit. All three lacked on the mic but were able to get over with the fans pretty easily. Shelton just doesn't seem to have that natural main event type charisma about him though.

They seriously need to book him in the main event scene again, what happened to back in august/september/october when he was wrestling main eventers? I know hes been wrestling Taker, but that hardly important as Taker isn't even involved in an angle at the minuite.
I have always said this:
Let him lose the title to someone like Gregory helms (yeah, what happened to this guy anyway?), then slowly build him up to the main event scene and either A. have him win MITB or let him build on a #1 contender run after Mania. Or C. have him drafted to raw and be booked to look like the best, then have him win the title aomewhere around summerslam.
I seriously want to see him carrying the WWE/WH championship soon, I mean, he is the gold standard To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

And when there is no hope,
"I'll smoke some crack, I'll shoot some dope!"
When theres no enemies,
"I sit and stare at my T.V.
and in my ignorance,
I'll be a slave and sycophant!"
He's going to be stuck in midcard hell just like the majorty of the E's talented wrestlers cause he's not 275+ lbs
I agree, Michaels, Jericho, Rey, Punk and Jeff never went anywhere in their careers.
Benjamin is a terrible heel and a personality vaccuum.
Look at what made him a star in the first place, he was a face who didn't NEED charisma because he got over with his ability. Unfortunately, his ability is no longer fresh like it was in 2004/5 and we've seen his all his big suplex and jump spots before.
The only way Shelton is going to prove he's a worthy mid-carder, let alone a decent main eventer, is if the man develops a personality, which after four years and no luck looks like likely as Uganda becoming becoming a developed country, or if they turn him face and he SOMEHOW is able to freshen up his ring work once again.
Ideally, I wish they'd take the title off him and give it to someone like Show, and have Benjamin turn face afterwards. A fued with someone like Kendrick could elevate both guys alot.

For a while they tried to put him over with pre-recorded promos before his music hit where I imagine they had several takes and picked the best, but it just looked wrong.

Sheltons most success came from being face. Since turning heel he has had more gimmick changes than Mick Foley. He is completely wasted as a heel. His strong point is in the ring, not the mic, yet WWE keep pushing this mic issue with him. The best thing for Shelton would be to drop the US Championship and turn face. Put him up against a monster heel and have him win in surprising fashion & go from there. Sheton will never be a mainstay main eventer in my opinion, but he could be an upper card wrestler who gets his chances in the main event scene. He could possibly pull of a Punk like title reign, only with better booking.( For you who disliked Punks booking)
