Dave Scherer is reporting that WWE has made the decision to bring back Extreme Championship Wrestling as a full time entity. While all of the details remain sketchy, WWE has already sent contracts out to several former ECW talents in order to bring them in for the return of the promotion. Early reports indicate that WWE is targeting September as the date to bring ECW back full time.
There is a possibility that it will take over current OVW territory and would get matches on RAW and/or SmackDown in some manner. Former ECW owner Paul Heyman and hardcore legend Tommy Dreamer will be booking ECW.
As mentioned, the contracts that WWE have sent out are three year deals consisting of a series of one year contracts, with rollover clauses. Names that we can confirm that have been offered deals include The Sandman, Francine, and Balls Mahoney. All three of them should receive their contracts this week.
We’ll bring you more details as they become available to us.

I was excited a few years ago when this was rumored and if this does happen I will be so excited. I just have a few thoughts though:
1)If it does take over for DSW, does this mean we won't actually get to see it on TV?
2)What about the ECW Title? They could bring back the tag team champions Danny Doring and Roadkill, but what about the World & TV champion Rhino? Maybe he could jump ship back to WWE(I say maybe because I don't know what his contract status with TNA is).

yeah thats cool but I really don't want them to have a couple ECW matches on Smackdown, they would just water it down and on network television there is no way it would really be ECW. I say get back the old Velocity timeslot and start off having on hour long show produced and booked by Heyman and Dreamer. Let them do whatever the hell they want in reestablishing ECW. In my opinion that would do a lot more to establish a seperate brand then this worthless brand extension has ever done. Definitelly great news though.
In a follow-up to the story that we posted earlier about ECW returning full-time, the plan was said to be finalized in the last week or so.
WWE is not looking to add a third day to their television schedule. It is believed this will be a mix of both former ECW wrestlers and new WWE developmental wrestlers who have been working house shows under Paul Heyman.
Speaking of Heyman, he will be in charge of the ECW brand. The plan is to run house shows and some form of weekly television as well.
Dave Meltzer reports that it would likely be handled similar to the Superastros deal in the late 90s, with weekly matches taped before either the Raw or Smackdown tapings.
Hopefully that TV program is national and not just a local TV program like OVW has.

Well.. I would fully expect them to do their own PPVs and showcase matches on RAW, which means they'd probably have their own titles.. possibly hold tourney's at the ECW One Night Stand 2 PPV.
I suppose it's good news and the only reason I'm even saying that is because Heyman and Dreamer are running it.
I smell another invasion type deal a brewing. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Yeah there is certainly more to this story than they are letting on to.
Bringing back ECW and just showcasing it on RAW and SD is essentially just the former ECW guys just working for the WWE.
I dont get this one and I have my doubts about it. Vince needs to think twice about this 'project' before putting it into action, otherwise its just going to make ECW look even more foolish than they did at the end when they have to shut down.

I loved ECdub, but in the past tense. This doesn't excite me at all. Who will they use?
RVD....probably but he's never going to look a big star whilst his one thing is "hi everyone, I used to be a big fish in a tiny pond"
Benoit.....big step down for him from World Champion to ECW roster in two years plus
Tazz....retired
Sabu....could do I suppose but that wouldn't thrill me
Rhyno, Dudleys, Lynn, Raven....all contracted to TNA
Dreamer, Storm, Malenko......pretty much retired, pushing them would be glossing over the cracks
Credible.....has done nothing of any note since ECW finished
Rey Rey.....he was there for about two weeks wasn't he? (I keed I keed)
Psicosis, Crazy......yeah could be good but have been buried on TV in recent times
Terry Funk.............BWAHAHAHA
So these guys are going to propel a new ECW movement? Doubtful. It's just going to be a few of them thrown together with all the OVW talent surely with the emphasis on getting the OVW talent over at the expense of the old lags. Not a bad idea in principle from WWE to use the ECW name to get over youngsters, but surely these true ECW hardcore fans will be mortified by that thought. Do WWE want to antagonise some pretty hardcore support by burying further the name of the company they revered? Watch this space. Oh wait no....that one over there.
