Re: King Of The Ring Participants For RAW Revealed
Half those people don't need to be in this (HBK, HHH, Batista..)
I liked the idea of having KotR for the up-and-comers. Although, they just did the "Money in the Bank" match, so that would be kind redundant. I'm sure the KotR matches will be made in such a way to continue current angles that Trips, HBK et al have going on.
I agree. The other guys, for the most part, are in feuds that will have some impact on KOTR (ie. interferance, etc). Either Umaga or MVP. Maybe Big Show. Give him a reward of sorts for having to endure Mayweather and Khali upon his return.

I'm fine with a one night, free televison King of the Ring Raw. I used to love the early king of the rings, but as it went on, it lost more and more value. It'd be nice to see someone like Kenny Dykstra winning it and get elevated back into the mid card scene.
KOTR was used to propel mid-carders to the upper echelon. Not make a no-name a Sunday Night Heat regular. Dykstra is going to suddenly emerge from the Witness Protection Program and win the KOTR?

I was just sayin giving an example of someone who should win it. There is no point for someone like Punk, MVP or Umanga to win it. Their already over.
The reason I said Dykstra, is because I went to a SD house show last night, and he was pretty damn good. It's such a shame he is not being used on the main TV shows. Him beating someone like HBK would give him momentum, and thus making KOTR an event to propell people. I don't really want to see guys like Umanga, MVP or Punk win it, becuase they are on TV every week, and wouldn't gain anything from winning.
I've heard a lot of veterans list Dykstra as one of the future stars of the WWE. I haven't really seen him wrestle much since his days in the Spirit Squad. But even back then he quickly emerged as the best wrestler of the bunch.
Be interesting to see where he goes, and I agree Phantom he should be in the tournament. Too bad he doesn't have a program going on at the moment (at least I don't think he does). People like HHH don't benefit from being in the Tourney in 2008.

He's not going to win it, so it has nothing to do with how he will benefit from it. King of the Ring hasn't been gone that long that people should forget how it works. You take the BEST wrestlers on the roster, and they compete in a tournament, in which a high mid-card or low-end main eventer, wins and gets elevated to "star status." It's never been about taking the Kenny Dykstra's of the world and making them into something. Stone Cold, Bret Hart, HHH, Kurt Angle.......how does Dykstra fit with them? He doesn't. Even guys like Billy Gunn, who pissed away the opportunity given to him by winning, still are above Dykstra.
I'm not ragging on the guy, nor you guys for wanting him to get more tv time etc., but if guys like Shelton Benjamin, Carlito, Santino, etc aren't in it, there's no shot in hell that Dykstra was even on a list to be considered. That's not what KOTR is about or how it works.

Dykstra was just an example. Yes, I think guys like Shelton, Santino, etc...need to be in this, not the main event players. It's completely pointless. And remember, KotR was the pay-per-view that put Austin on the map. He was pretty much a midcarder at best before that PPV, and after that it elevated him bigtime.
I'm not saying Dykstra even has to win it, having an amazing second or third place performance could also get people talking and set him (or someone like Carlito, Shelton, whatever) up for bigger things.
1985 Don Muraco
1986 Harley Race
1987 Randy Savage - Midcarder
1988 Ted DiBiase - Pretty much main event when he won
1989 Tito Santana - Just out of a tag team
1991 Bret Hart - Had just become a singles wrestler
1993 Bret Hart
1994 Owen Hart - Close to the main event as he was ever going to get
1995 Mabel - Just out of a tag team/stable
1996 Steve Austin - Was known as the ringmaster until just before the tournament/Lower Midcard
1997 Hunter Hearst Helmsley - Just bearly out of the rich snob gimmick/Lower Midcard
1998 Ken Shamrock - Midcarder
1999 Billy Gunn - Midcarder
2000 Kurt Angle - Was feuding with 2 cool
2001 Edge - A tag wrestler at the time
2002 Brock Lesnar - Debuted about 4 months prior
2006 Booker T
If it wasent a One night only tournament, i think Kenny would have had a good shot at winning going by previous winners card position.
