The show started with a recap of last week’s show of Cody Runnels being attacked by KC James & Aaron “the idol” Stevens.

The first series of matches was a 10 man gauntlet, the winner getting a match against Randy Orton at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom on Friday 8/11.

1st.) Brent Albright vs. TJ Dalton

Winner: Albright with a crowbar submission

2nd.) Brent Albright vs. “Showtime” Vic Devine

Winner: Albright rolls up Devine for the pin as Devine sets his chair up in the ring.

3rd.) Brent Albright vs. John Bolin

Winner: Brent Albright hits a release belly to belly suplex , then locks on the crowbar.

4th.) Brent Albright vs. Shawn Osborne

Winner: Brent Albright hits a sunset flip for the pin.

5th.) Brent Albright vs. Shawn Spears

Winner: Brent Albright rolled Spears up, but Spears bridged out, Albright worked him into a crowbar for the submission.

6th.) Brent Albright vs. Boris Alexia

Winner: Brent Albright wins via DQ, when he put his foot on the ropes in order to break Alexia’s standing armbar and the ref caught Strongko pushing his foot off.

7th.) Brent Albright vs. Mike Cruel

Winner: Brent Albright reverses a front headlock into a crowbar for the submission victory.

8th.) Brent Albright vs. Eddie Craven

Winner: Albright rolls Craven up for the pin after countering an armbar.

9th.) Brent Albright vs. Charles Evans

Winner: Brent Albright gets the pin after Evans tried to press him and Albright went over his back and rolled him up from a waist lock.

Brent Albright won the 10 man gauntlet and will face Randy Orton on Friday 8/11 at Kentucky Kingdom. My experience at these shows has been that the wrestlers are very nice and generous with their time usually willing to sign autographs and such. So all you girls who are in love with Orton put your money where your mouth is and support OVW by going to the show this Friday at Kentucky Kingdom.

Next Dusty Rhodes comes on the screen and comments on Idol and KC James’s attack on Cody Runnels from the week before. Dusty claimed that they had defaced the American Dream because he had passed that legacy on to Cody. Dusty went on to say that he would be teaming with Cody at Kentucky Kingdom this Friday in Cody’s match against Idol and KC James.

The next match was KC James & Aaron “the idol” Stevens vs. Los Locos.

Idol & KC came out with a vengeance immediately attacking Los Locos. Idol then threw Ramon over the top rope causing the ref to DQ Idol and KC.

Idol & KC went on to accept Dusty Rhodes challenge to them for the match at Kentucky Kingdom. It was a pretty good promo with KC James at one point calling Dusty a broke-down, fat old man.

The next match was Lennox Lightfoot vs. Jacob Duncan, both of whom were making their OVW wrestling debut, although there have been vignettes of Duncan for the last few weeks. The match did what it was supposed to which was get Duncan over as a monster. He laid Lightfoot out with a few power moves before getting the pin with a full-nelson slam.

We then had the Spirit Squad on screen responding to Danny Davis’s challenge from the week before. They basically said that they would have no problem beating an old man and a bunch of washed up losers and happily accepted the challenge.

That match will also take place this Friday at Kentucky Kingdom 8/11 and will be the Spirit Squad vs. Danny Davis, the Bashams, Eugene, and Rob Conway. I’m sure that by now you can see a theme to this weeks show.

The camera then cut to ODB back stage holding the women’s title and talking about how she spent 21 days in Rio and had to go thru 200 women to win that belt (huh?). Serena interrupted her and the two started arguing. Charles Evans happened by and told Serena not to treat the women’s champ that way. As Serena reared back to slap him he grabbed her arm, and she began screaming at him to let her go. At this point Shawn Spears comes running in and Spears then has a confrontation with Evans. Evans and ODB leave and the scene ends with Spears asking Serena if she’s all right. Does anyone else see a mixed tag match happening some time in the near future between these four?

The next part of the show was Simon Dean cutting a great promo on Al Snow. The two are having a steel cage match (the first in OVW history) at Kentucky Kingdom this Friday in the culmination to their feud and Dean did a great job hyping the match. Dean said that this will be his first cage match and talked about how he, like Al Snow, took the long road to success. Dean talked about starting out as a fat kid at Iron Mike Sharpe’s wrestling school, then working his way thru ECW, then conquering OVW and going on to become a WWE superstar. Dean said that he didn’t know how many big matches he has left, and he was damn sure going to take it to the Snowman in this one.

We next heard Al Snow’s response, as he was Robby Dawber’s guest on Sports Entertainment Tonight. Al also cut a good promo, appealing to Simon Dean’s wife to hold Simon, and take long walks with him because after this cage match Simon Dean was going to be a crippled, broken, bloody mess and Mrs. Dean probably wouldn’t even recognize him after Friday.

Our main event was for the Southern tag team titles with the champs CM Punk & Seth Skyfire vs. Deuce & Domino.

I think that Seth and Punk make a pretty good team as they work very well together. This match was a typical baby face vs. heel match. Skyfire continues to impress me every time I see him wrestle, and Punk’s work was superb as always. There were several near falls and at one point Punk and Skyfire even hit what looked like a version of Total Elimination on Deuce. At the end though both Punk and Skyfire were selling injuries and Deuce took advantage of this by hitting a modified facebuster on Punk and getting the win. So Deuce and Domino are the new Southern tag team champions.

The show was okay, but the wrestling seemed to take a back seat to the Kentucky Kingdom hype. The main point of the last several shows has been to promote the Summer Sizzlin Series at Kentucky Kingdom, and while that is certainly understandable since the Series is a huge marketing tool for OVW, the TV show sometimes becomes one big commercial. The show this Friday will be the last one of those for the summer so it will be interesting to see how the TV show advances and develops under the new creative team now that the main focus will be back on the television show. Until next time, thanks for reading.

I knew that Punk & Skyfire wouldn't have the belts for long, with Punk being called up to ECW it was fairly obvious.

Punk had some good matches in OVW but it's good to see him in ECW.
