The backstory on Kevin Von Erich's appearance at SNME is that WWE producer Kevin Dunn contacted him a few weeks prior to the event to pitch an angle where he would be laid out by Edge. Needless to say, Kevin refused to participate in the angle. Also, he said that he was taking his family to Hawaii in mid-July and he wouldn't be in Dallas anyways. Vince McMahon then called Kevin Von Erich and apologized for Dunn's request. He then asked him if he could come to the show, which he did. On the day of the show, there was a plan for Kevin to tape an interview regarding the World Class video tape collection (which he recently sold to WWE for $250,000) at 2 p.m., then come home and watch the show on television. However, plans were changed, and the interview never took place. Although, Vince managed to convince Kevin to come out and wave to the crowd during the show at the very least.
Former Texas-area referee James Beard made his debut on RAW last week during the Johnny Jeter vs. Rory McAllister match, though his name wasn't announced. Beard threw out the Spirit Squad after they interfered in the match. He had come to the show for a job interview. They are looking for referees who can take charge and have experience under pressure because several of the younger referees are prone to losing the crowd. Basically, they want someone with experience. Beard also worked the Kurt Angle vs. Brooklyn Brawler match on Tuesday night at the ECW tapings. Also note, James Beard is good friends with JBL. JBL is the individual who recommended WWE to bring him in.
