INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING PHENOMENON RING OF HONOR INKS STATESIDE TELEVISION DEALS
WITH iN DEMAND, TVN AND ECHOSTAR
PPV/VOD Distribution Deals Bring ROH into 50 Million Households
New York, May 3, 2007 - Ring Of Honor Wrestling (ROH), in association with G-Funk Sports & Entertainment, has concluded programming and distribution deals for PPV and VOD wrestling cards with iN DEMAND Networks, TVN and EchoStar Communications Corporationâs DISH NetworkTM, making the critically-acclaimed ROH brand available for the first time ever to approximately 50 million American households. The agreement calls for a card every 60 days from shows both stateside and abroad, and will premiere July 1. A total of six cards are planned throughout â07/â08. ROH owner Cary Silkin made the announcement today with G-Funkâs President Ken Gelman. The debut event, entitled âRespect Is Earned,â will be taped May 12 in New York City from the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Center, and will feature a glistening array of talent from Japan, England, the U.S. and Mexico.
Long revered by a loyal underground fan base, the Philadelphia-based ROHâcurrently seen on Canadian, British and Japanese TVâappeals to the disenfranchised wrestling fan fed up with storylines which seem to take precedence over the kind of powerful ring competition that ROH specializes in. ROH, in fact, is seen to have the highest level of athleticism in its field today, which recently culminated in a sweep of the 2006 Wrestling Observer awards for âMost Outstanding Wrestler,â âBest Brawler,â âBest Major Wrestling Showâ (ROH took four of its Top 10) and âBest Booker.â
âFans around the world now know that our brand of action is, indeed, the highest-flying, hardest-hitting most daring and acrobatic action presented today,â says Mr. Silkin. âWe are thrilled that we can finally show a televised audience what our crowds have known for the last six yearsâŠthat ROH harkens back to an earlier era of wrestling where authenticity still counted for something. Thereâs a magic at our shows that I, as a wrestling fan, had all but given up on.â
G-Funk Sports and Entertainment will be handling all marketing and promotion for the wrestling programs, including creation and launch of an affiliate website on May 15, To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. Each show will also be supported by a range of targeted national consumer advertising and promotion.
According to Mr. Gelman, âRing Of Honor already has the respect and enthusiastic following of legions of fans around the world through their live events, but represents a fresh new entry into the world of televised wrestling. These distinctive programs will prove a welcome change-of-pace for audiences and a popular new option for cable operators and satellite providers as they expand their transactional offerings.â
BEST FUCKING NEWS EVER!
so that explains why they havent announced anything for the Manhattan show, which I'll be at,btw

This is great news for them and now i suppose the battle will begin between TNA & ROH for the talent currently working for both.

I don't think that many people will buy the PPV's not knowing what it is really.
They won't be very successful until they get a t.v. deal.
I had not even heard of ROH until a few months ago on here.

I disagree ROH has a huge fan base in the states they may not sell out like Madison Square Garden, but their fans are dedicated, these are the fans that buy everything dvd they put out and will for sure buy all ppv's put out, compared to tna and wwe fans who won't dish out the money for that stuff.

Ohh i've just realised, if this is on PPV then hopefully we won't have to wait a stupid 3 or 4 months for the shows to be released.

They definitely have some devoted fans.
I was talking more about developing new fans. Potential new fans are going to be reluctant to buy a PPV without knowing anything about ROH. If they had a weekly t.v. show people could get interested in the show and then they would want to order the PPV's.

Im not a fan of the way theyve been booking lately, but I'd still support the product. Thankfully them doing this has promted TNA to pull all off there Talent from ROH (Homicide, Aries etc etc). So hopefully this allows for them to do more of there own thing without being TNA v.2.0

BY huge do you mean a few hundred thousand at most? Running against WWE's fan base and even TNA's fan Base that number is still very small. I agree with Dakstang that it will have to have more exposure before people will really get into it. Much like TNA was before Impact landed on Spike TV. It will need a tv deal for it to take off... end of story. People are basically lazy and are happy with what they have and won't go the extra lengths to download ROH action to stay on top of what is going on. Also they will have to commercialize some(hopefully not too much) To appeal to the majority of the wrestling fanbase that exsists now and what they expect. Maybe not go over as much as TNA has, but they will have to some to succeed.
Keep in mind that ROH seems to be big to all of us in the forum world cause the majority of us respect it, but in reality we are maybe a little more than a grain of salt in the total of people who make up the common audience, and other people think different than we "smart fans" do. Therefore ROH would need the exposure, and once they have the attention they would have to do something to keep the attention of the COMMON wrestling fan. And what they have right now may not suit the majority of the common fan.
