As reported earlier, Rob Van Dam's WWE contract will be expiring in a few months. News is now coming out that he is legitimately expressing interest in leaving WWE for TNA and the independent circuit when his contract ultimately expires.
RVD was openly talking about it during the weekend of the ECW PPV, asking people if it was a good idea. Especially after some fans at the ECW PPV were chanting for him to go to TNA. Furthermore, several people said that his wife Sonya, who was in attendance at the PPV, was chanting "TNA" along with some other fans. As things stand now, the belief is that he won't sign a new contract with WWE, but things can always change.
RVD feels that Vince McMahon wouldn't allow the ECW belt to be put back on him because he thinks he's still being punished for his pot bust back in July. RVD thinks he did his time. Also, RVD's refusal to go on the Iraq trip probably didn't help matters, even though it was technically voluntary.
Pfft... I am really sure that his wife was chanting "TNA" at the ECW PPV. Dave Meltzer will put any damn thing in the Wrestling Observor these days... Hell if he wants to leave let him leave because ECW really isn't going anywhere and, I doubt he won't be pushed on Smackdown! or RAW anytime soon.
Let him go an win the NWA title then job it back to Jarrett like everybody else seems to be doing.... I am shocked Abyss won the title from Sting and, that Jarret didn't order himself another title reign....
The NWA title doesn't mean that much these days anyways (although it's better than it was 4 years ago when it was no more importent than any other indy belt).
RVD has refused to go to the Iraq/Afghanistan shows every year, talk about being selfish.

i wouldent go either. RVD probably against the troops being there in the first place so he shouldent have to go if he doesnt want to.
This is true. However going there and showing support for the troops is showing respect for the men and women who give their lives for our country and our countries wishes. To me not attending shows a lack of respect for these people as human beings. War policies be damned there are real people there risking their lives every day.
It's called being selfish and disrespectful, what RVD is doing. This is most likely what turned Vince off on him.
When you get of age to join the military you will understand what I am talking about.
I think what Kennedy meant is that at least here in the U.S. if a guy is WWE Champion, he's treated with some kind of respect for lack of a better term by our media and the people, casual fans, maybe even less then casual fans usually know who he is.
The current WWE Championship means a lot more than the current NWA Title.
The NWA Title USED to be the biggest title, until the NWA basically collapsed in the mid-90's and the NWA title started being defenced mainly in indy feds and the title wasn't worth the price of the gold in the belt. Since TNA formed and withdrew from the NWA, the belt has started to become important again.

Also, it could be a factor of safety for RVD. Maybe he doesn't feel "safe" going there? I'm not trying to defend him, but there could be other reasons why he didn't want to go other than he's just being selfish. Would you feel safe going to Iraq right now to perform if you were with WWE? Maybe so, but that can't be said for everyone.
And now, here it is...your moment of Carlin (12/2/2008)
