World Wrestling Entertainment held their first round of drug tests in conjunction with the WWE Wellness program yesterday in Memphis, TN prior to their WWE Supershow taping of Raw and Smackdown.
When talent arrived at the Supershow taping, they were instructed to fill out paperwork for Aegis Sciences Corporation. They were then instructed to take a cup that was set up on a table for the testing procedure.
Talent used a restroom set aside specifically for the urine tests. Testing personnel were present but wrestlers were allowed privacy while urinating. The urine samples were immediately labeled and bagged to go back to the testing facility in Nashville.
WWE Talent had no idea they would be taking the tests until they arrived at the taping, although logistically it made sense to conduct the initial tests last night since Aegis Sciences Corporation, who are heading the Wellness Program testing, are based in Tennessee.
It is believed the entire roster present at the tapings (all of the usual names with the exception of Goldust and Rob Conway were in attendance last night) were tested.
The results from last night's tests will be considered "baseline" levels with no action taken against those who test positive for illegal and prohibited substances. The baseline results will be compared later on against future test results to determine whether usage of banned substances are continuing or if levels within WWE performers are dropping.
WWE will not penalize anyone for what is already in their system as long as their future tests indicate that they are making strides towards getting off the substances. However, if future testing indicates continued use at the same level (or increased usage) without a legitimate medical reason, that talent will be subject to disciplinary action starting with a 30 day suspension without pay. Subsequent failures could lead to longer suspensions, referrals to rehabilitation, or outright termination from World Wrestling Entertainment.
