Recent crowd reactions to John Cena have become one of Vince McMahon's biggest concerns.
Vince is a man who takes great pride in being able to control his audience, and the continued defiance of this has become somewhat of an embarrassment for him.
One wrestler was quoted, "They tried everything to get fans to cheer Cena, but they just threw their hands up last week in New Jersey," he continued, "That really shook them up."

I think having a 60 year old guy trying to hang with Cena and calling him a n1gger on live TV was the final death nail in any possibility of him being a cool face character.
Cena's promo on Monday was a step back in the right direction. He was more serious and by the end of the show the fans were chanting for Cena to help out Flair and take out Edge. I think this feud with Edge could help re-establish Cena as a face, but he needs to be booked much better than he has been since moving to RAW. Last week was a step, as he finally wasn't made to look like a fool. Maybe now that he's no longer champ, they will start to make him look stronger and that will go a long way in the eyes of the fans.
Cena needs to go down to OVW or DSW to learn how to wrestle. Since that won't happen though he needs to be turned heel and go back to ripping into the fans and his opponents(although without the toilet humor).

I used to think that, but then I thought that if he hasn't learnt enough in three years of competition in the big league against Angle, Jericho, Michaels, Eddie, Flair, Brock, Taker and so on......is he really going to suddenly pick it up from Ken Doane and Brent Albright?
