Tonight at the SmackDown television taping in Philadelphia, Batista’s torn right triceps forced him to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship over to General Manager Theodore Long.

Long immediately declared that there would be a Battle Royal tonight to determine the new World Heavyweight Champion.

At least by having him give up the title they didn't make him look weak. I wonder who they had win the title, my guess would be Randy Orton.

I hope Taker wins the title cause if its Orton then you know Trips is winnning the Rumble for sure, I wouldn't be pissed if Hunter won I've just hated it these last couple of years that the Rumble has been so predictable. Takes all the fun out of what is usually the most fun ppv of the year.

Really when you think about it they would be better off sending Angle or Michaels down to Smackdown since the main eventers on Smackdown now seems to be limited to only Randy and the deadman. It would be great if the writers went the unpredictable route and gave us a surprising Mysterio title victory but that would be almost too much to hope for.

Mysterio would only work as a short term champ, like a month or less. Having said that, I wouldn't mind having Mysterio hold the title until the Royal Rumble.

You are right about SmackDown needing more main eventer. After Eddie' death, Christian quitting, and now Batista injured they need somebody to in main event status.

Since this is a spoiler thread, let me say that Angle more than deserves the title. I can't wait to see the explanation of why he was allowed to participate though, although this also means SD gets Angle back.

What does this mean for his match against Shawn Michaels next week on Raw though? With him being World Champion I assume this means he is part of the SD roster now.
