Scott Steiner interview

Some interesting comments from Steiner's most recent interview.

Scott Steiner was the featured guest on this weeks Get in the Ring with
Phantom and new co-host, Junior. To Listen to the Interview go to
www.voiceofwrestling.com or www.wrestlingradionetwork.com

- Scott Steiner joins Phantom and Junior on the show. Steiner says he's
getting back on the wrestling scene after surgery on his foot. The injury "slowed him down a little bit" during his WWE run.

- Talk turns to the recent passing of Eddie Guerrero. Scott says Guerrero was “an addict”, and remembers him being an “addict” back in WCW. He also states that he feels horrible for his family. When asked if he was ever close with Eddie, Steiner says the cruiserweights stuck together in WCW.

- Phantom then brings up the WWE release; "I didn't really wanna be there anymore, it was horrible. The TV was horrible - and it's even worse now!"

- Howard Finkel told Steiner that his debut pop in Madison Square Garden ranked up there with Superstar Graham and Bruno Sammartino, yet "like they did to everyone else from WCW: they shit on you."

- Steiner goes onto say, they did it with Goldberg and Nash, "...Nash was supposed to be HHH's best friend," and "they never attracted the WCW audience."

- Junior asks if they purposefully went out to destroy the careers of the WCW guys? "Yes, without a doubt." Steiner says he wasn't even allowed to do my own interviews.

- Phantom asks the weekly HHH question. "He's like Flair, he's nice to your face but who knows what goes on behind closed doors?"

- Steiner says he was first asked to come in at Wrestlemania 18 it was to team with Steve Austin against Nash and Hall but the money wasn't what he wanted. He ended up getting more than what he asked for anyway.

- Junior asks if Steiner had artistic freedom with his WCW promos, bringing up the Flair skits. "I just ripped him, he's so easy to pick apart." After one promo, Flair was seen in another room crying. "He's the biggest piece of garbage you'll ever meet."

- Steiner says that even Phantom would be 16-time world champion if he had all his friends writing for him and that his book buried him more than even he could.

- Phantom compares cliques in WWE and WCW. Steiner says in Titan, you have to be "cool with Vince, cool with HHH for obvious reasons, cool with Stephanie."

- In WCW; "Flair's buddies tried to bury NWO from day one. Flair would
rather have the belt and draw 1,500 people then not have the belt and sell out."

- Steiner will be appearing for the AWE in Canada for a two day supershow on Decmeber 6th and December 7th, www.aweheat.com and Rikishi's promotion in Italy before that.

- Scott said that it seemed like they "tried to take the power away from Shane (McMahon)" while he was in WWE, which is probably why Test got released. Steiner laughs at how badly the WWE treated Test while he was recovering from neck surgery.

- Steiner then tells a funny story about Dick the Bruiser and Ric Flair, and a time when Afa slapped the Nature Boy.

- Scott then puts over TNA and talks about Bischoff, WCW, Lex, before
talking about the DDP backstage fight.

WCW audience? What audience did they really had? I only watched it because I was a long time fan and didn't plan on just abandoning it. The reason Nash didn't draw fans was because he sucked in the ring.

I hate to say it, but most wrestlers coming from WCW were treated like crap, just look at how they failed to capitalize on Booker T when he was still really popular.

From what I have seen, Stein is just an a--hole and shouldn't be ragging on other people.

I have to agree with him though that WWE treated Test badly when he was injured.

Nice read Bulldog.

i thought that wwe should have let steiner be the same charactera she was at the end of wcw. he was a bad ass, but for some reason they turned him into a bitch losin to hhh all the time. I don't really agree with him on how vince used wcw tralent. Besides booker who is still sucessful in wwe, i think if goldberg wasn't in it just for the money he could have survived though
Bow down to da KING

My take on Steiner is that he was just about still mobile enough to conduct a very good match with Goldberg (a PPV in around 1999/ 2000) but that by the time his fat Time Warner contract had finished in (2002? ish) his complete lack of ring time coupled with his recovery and on-going issues with drop foot syndrome allied to back problems had completely and utterly finished him as an in-ring performer.

In truth, WWE did all it possibly could to promote Steiner. They placed him in a World Title feud with their number one performer straight away knowing full well that any money to be had from Steiner was in the initial fascination, because once he was viewed in the ring, no one was going to buy him being a genuine hard ass anymore because he was broken down.

Before he got in the ring with Hunter (at the Rumble?) we hadn't even seen him have an actual match. And god knows we knew why once that one started!! He should be grateful to them that he got two more big main event PPV cheques before he was found out.

I don't mean to sound like I ever disliked Steiner though....his body is the way it was because of his huge dedication to trying to be the best he could be in the ring. In the first part of his career, he was an absolutely superb in ring performer (something that must be hard for people that didn't see him in that era now to believe) and in the second part of his career his Big Poppa Pump character was one of the few endearing memories of WCW's last few years.
